Obituary of Laurence "Laurie" Edward Montgomery

Please share a memory of Laurence "Laurie" to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Laurence “Laurie” Edward Montgomery of Bridgetown, Nova Scotia passed away on May 4, 2019.  Laurie was born on August 17, 1936 in Weyburn, Saskatchewan.  He grew up in Middleton, Nova Scotia, raised by his grandparents Edward and Margaret Montgomery.

Laurie was a man of many talents, with an incredible singing voice and Hollywood good looks.  He was generous and kind and carried these characteristics throughout his distinguished career as a teacher and, later, as a politician.  Laurie loved his family above all.  He was a devoted husband to his wife Paula and always said that his greatest accomplishments were his three children, Kenneth (Christine), Carol (Jack) and Elizabeth (Mark).  He felt blessed to have so many grandchildren and each meant the world to him: Kathleen, Anna, Julia, Nicole, Noelle, Grace, Emma, Rie, Shino, Evelyn, and Nathaniel.  Laurie was a loving husband, a marvelous father and grandfather, a caring brother to Don, Bob, and Diane, a wonderful son to Cecil (Dorothy) and Nora (Gordon), a friend to many (including dogs), and always a gentleman. He cared so much for his sisters-in-law, Anne (Stephen), Carol (Derek), and Janet (Hans), as well as, Tomoko Montgomery (Shin) and Stephen Walsh.

One of Laurie’s favourite expressions is appropriate here:

“I’ll see you awhile ago.”

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 8th from 2:00 to 4:00 pm at Kaulbach Funeral Home, Bridgetown, Nova Scotia.  In lieu of flowers, the family asks that friends and family consider donations to the Mid-Valley Palliative Care at Soldier’s Memorial Hospital in Middleton, NS.   Online condolences may be made by visiting www.kaulbachfamilyfunerallhome.com
