It was inspirational to see Laurie face so many health challenges and still have that smile and graciousness. Paula’s loving care and devotion to Laurie’s struggles are also inspiring. Laurie”s special qualities will be missed by many. My first husband, Jim Bayer was part of the small first graduating class of Physical Education at UNB along with Laurie and Dede. The early years of Jim, Laurie, Dick Hayden, Bill White, Russ McNeill and others working together when we were all young and starting families created almost family like bonds that stayed even though careers developed in different directions. May the energy and bonds of Laurie, Jim, Bill White, Dick Hayden and Russ McNeill continue to shine upon us. Rest In Peace Laurie, you will be missed.

Mr. Montgomery was my PE teacher at the Annapolis Academy in the late 60's early 70's. I remember him fondly as a great encourager and an excellent teacher; generously patient and respectful of his students. Gym was something I tolerated until I became one of his students. My condolences to his family and community.

Paula & family,
My condolences on Monty’s death. That nickname dates back to UNB Phys. Ed. days when we were classmates. Then there were connection when my late husband, Dick worked with the provincial govt. along side Bill Spurr, Jim Bayer, Bill White, Russ McNeill & others. I am sad to have to add another name to the growing list of those great guys who have gone. It’s never easy to lose your life’s partner, but I’ll share one of the many sayings I’ve held on to these 8+ years.
“I think about him most days. Sometimes it’s with my mind, but mostly it’s with my heart.”& “ When you walk with grief, walk slowly.”

Seeing the photograph of my high school physical education teacher from the Annapolis Royal Regional Academy, Mr. Montgomery, in today's paper, was a bittersweet moment. Memories of seeing Mr. M.'s tall, gallant figure passing by in the gym as we dribbled and volleyed during noon hour intramural sports and again in the field as we traipsed, red hurdles in hand, down the road to the old track at about this time of year, flooded back. I think, just because of his noble and striking presence, I felt more like an Olympian striving to go "Citius, Altius, Fortius." I certainly looked up to him as an example of what the human character can offer the world and I'm sure he was a role model, especially for many of the boy athletes on his teams. My deepest condolences to his loved ones.
