Our sincere condolences to the entire Pettit family. What a loss ... Ted was such a true friend and we shared so many laughs during his time in Inuvik, Northwest Territories. Ted became close to some of the local people and those of us lucky enough to be in that group often share stories of our time with him and Nancy.
While there Inspector Pettit led two unique RCMP Patrols by snow machines across the remote and vast Arctic landscape: 1991 Inuvik, NT to Hershel Island, YT and 1992 Inuvik, NT to Kaktovik, Alaska. All the men who participated on these patrols remember them with fondness.
Good bye dear friend, you were taken away too soon.

Very very sorry to hear of Ted's passing. I worked for Ted when he was the OIC Inuvik Sub Division. I was a Cst. running a Sgt's Detachment and Ted offered me the support and compassion to be successful. He was a mentor for me to look up to and was a wonderful unassuming person. I was honoured to work under him and he taught me a lot of lessons that I put to use later in my career.
Any time I was in Inuvik he always made time for me to have a sit down chat and go over any issues or problems we encountered. He was a man ahead of his time in this regard.
My thoughts are with his family.

Dear Nancy and boys, I was saddened to hear of Ted's passing. Only months ago we gathered to pay our respects to Becky, another beloved colleague and friend. I have many fond memories of my time spent as a CR3 at Bridgetown Detachment under Ted's watch. He was a kind and fair person, and took this 18 year old under his wing; I learned a lot about policing and community from him.
A person that departs from this earth never truly leaves, for they are still alive in our hearts and minds, through us, they live on. Please accept my condolences, Ted will not be forgotten.

Nancy, Steve and Kim, James and Linda, Tim, Cheryl and Sidney. Barbara and I are thinking of you. We've been talking about Ted frequently this past week, and before that; sharing memories of the summer of the Great Green Shark, fruit wine, a big green Cadillac, rainy days in the front porch, jujubes, parties and singalongs, Christmas in Calgary with sudoku and the rubber chicken, sitting on the deck smoking a cigar and Ted's silhouette in the door by the kitchen after I gave him a hug and said goodnight.
He was and always will be a very special person in my life; I'm so very glad Barbara had the immense pleasure of meeting him. We will miss him very very much.

Dear Nancy, Stephen, James, Tim and families, My heart goes out to all of you and I am very sad to know that Ted is no longer with you. Your loss is immense and no words seem adequate when considering the profound effect his death has had. When Clarence and I moved to Bridgetown we joined a detachment family that Ted led with integrity, compassion and wisdom. In addition, we gladly found ourselves adopted into the Pettit family. Nancy, you, Ted and your sons were supportive and caring friends we were so fortunate to have while we were there. It is a blessing for which we will always be grateful. It is hard to consider a Bridgetown without Ted; but, the contribution he has made to so many lives will be treasured always. Our sympathy to you all. Sincerely,Garry,Clarence, Hugh, Keenan and Andrew Fidler

Nancy, you and your family are in our thoughts as you travel this very difficult journey.
Rosemary and I are heartbroken and can't begin to imagine what your family is going through.
Ted and I trained together in "B" Troop 1959 and survived some tough times. Years went by before we connected to organize "B" troop members for our 50 year Reunion in Charlottetown.. Ted looked after the money, better known as "The Money Man".
He also did research for our 50 year anniversary shirts, among many other important matters.
None of us will forget his great smile and the sound of that contagious laughter as old troop mates arrived in Charlottetown.
We were in the process of organizing our 60 year reunion with Ted when his illness surfaced.
