For many years Donald was an excellent Sunday School teacher at Granville Beach United Baptist Church; and his legacy as a Christian and a Sunday School teacher still speaks today.

Bertha, Johanna and I are saddened to learn of Donald's passing. Our condolences to Kathy, Carl and all the family. Many years ago I was blessed to come across Donald in my quest to discover folk artists in Nova Scotia, and will always remember Donald with his infectious smile and enthusiasm when presenting his incredible carvings, several of which continue to adorn our home in Montreal. Nova Scotia has lost one of it's finest folk artists. Our thoughts and sympathies are with you all at this time.

Sincere condolences to all of Kathy's family on the passing of her father. I didn't know Mr. Armstrong personally but I know I used to see him along the road when down that way on occasion. I believe my father-in-law had a pair of oxen which he had crafted. They are now in the possession of my daughter. God bless you all at this sad time.

We remember Donald at the Annapolis Valley Exhibition and treasure the model hay wagon he crafted. Many years ago, I remember him telling me that on a visit to my grandfather (Gavin Grant), he saw a leather vise which my grandfather had made. He told me he went home, made one just like it and still had it at the time. (I still have my grandfather's). We remember Donald as a true gentleman. He will be missed by all who knew him. Our thoughts and sympathy are with you.

To all of the family;
Heather and I are saddened having just received the news of Donald's passing on the weekend. We were both so privileged to have been in NS so we could attend his special birthday celebration a couple years ago, meeting with many of the family, enjoying a follow on reception and also a few years before being able to meet and speak and briefly reminisce with him at the family reunion in South Range. I still have fleeting images from my boyhood of the occasional drive with my Grandfather Vian and Grandmother Euella when they would on a Sunday afternoon visit Vian's sister in Granville and we would see and spend some time with our Armstrong cousins, Donald being one.
Please accept our heart felt sympathies along with our thoughts and prayers.

I wish that I could be there to support you tomorrow but unfortunately cannot leave until Tuesday. My thoughts and prayers will be with you and your family. Love to all, Dorothy

I speak for cousin, Pearl Bailer (nee Sjorlund/Armstrong) and our whole family in expressing our sincere condolences and love to your family. Losing a special, treasured family patriarch, friend, father, grand, greatgrand, community leader, folk artist, man of faith....and truly sooo much more brings a sadness & emptiness that will not, can not, should not be replaced. To Kathy, my heart aches for you. I know I have this to face with my momma.
