PATRICIA HELEN BANKS (nee DWYER), March 23, 1938 – August 30, 2018

Social worker, volunteer, wife, mother, sister, friend

 

It is with great sadness that the family of Pat Banks announces that she passed away on August 30, 2018 at the age of 80 years.

 

Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Pat attended St. Mary’s Academy, and then received a Master’s Degree in Social Work from University of Ottawa in 1967.

 

Practicing as a social worker in Toronto, Montreal, QC, and later in St. Catharines, ON, Pat worked tirelessly against family violence, and had a profoundly positive impact on the lives of many people, especially women.

 

She retired with her husband, Ken, to Port Lorne, Nova Scotia in 2006. She formed many close friendships here, and was an active volunteer for many local organizations, including the Catholic Women’s League, Mountain Lea Lodge, and Port Lorne Fundy Hall.

 

She will be forever missed by her husband of 50 years, C. Kenneth Banks, sons Christopher and Joel, and daughter Wendy (Michael), and her sister Margaret (John). She was predeceased by her sister Rosemary. She will also be dearly missed by her nieces, nephews, extended family and her many friends.

 

Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Kaulbach Family Funeral Home, Bridgetown. A funeral service and reception in memory of Pat will be held on Saturday, September 1st at 11 a.m., at St. Alphonsus Roman Catholic Church, 93 South St., Bridgetown, Nova Scotia, with Father John MacPherson officiating. Burial will follow in St. Alphonsus Catholic Cemetery, Bridgetown. In addition, a celebration of Pat’s life will be held at Port Lorne Fundy Hall 557 Port Lorne Road on Sunday, September 2nd at 2 p.m.
