She epitomized "sing like no one is listening." The joyous truth is that she couldn't carry a tune in a bucket but what made that truth so wonderful was that she was well aware, and she sang out anyway. She loved to sing and so she did. When I was young, I attended camps where she was a much-loved counsellor, and I vividly remember Mary-Lee leading campfire and somehow, like a version of the Bad News Bears, we children achieved the impossible and learned new songs from her, guided by her joy and delight.
My 5 yr old daughter asks me to sing to her every single night as she falls asleep and it's almost always a camp song -- or something from 70's AM radio -- and so for these last five years there has not been a night when I've not thought of my Auntie Mary-Lee, who always called me Princess. She's the one who taught me so many of those songs and danced and sang with me to disco and roots rock on our little battery-fed, transistor radio, as we roamed around Dartmouth in the summertimes.
While looking for flights home to attend the funeral, a song from those days came up on the playlist and James Taylor softly singing the words "...but I always thought that I'd see you again" dropped me.
I did. I always thought that I'd see you again. I wish that I could have been there in those last moments; I felt that I was supposed to have been there, to sing softly in your ear, and share back to you a small sliver of all that joy you shared with my brother and I, with Nick, and with so many more.
I've seen fire, and I've seen rain
I've seen sunny days that I thought would never end
I've seen lonely times when I could not find a friend
But I always thought that I'd see you again
You're so missed, Auntie.
Love,
Kelly-Ruth

So sorry for your loss.. She was a great lady n once she touched your life she never left your heart. I met her as my teacher in AWEC n she touched my heart from the first time we talked.. She always was there to help u even if u needed to just talk. One thing I always remember with her was rainy days .. They always have been a down day for me .. And one day her words she said have always stuck in my head.. Laura why do u hate rainy days .. I always said they were just gloomy .. She chuckled and said u are looking at it all wrong .. A rainy day is what u make it!! And everyone u have in heaven are shedding happy tears looking down.. And u can feel them close to u so enjoy the day!! I always have remembered that to this day .. Her n I never seen each other much in the last years but when ever we did it was always happy tears..
Now I will remember those words she told me n know on them rainy days she is here with me looking down from heaven with that beautiful smile n always a chuckle ..
Gone but never forgotten ..
Thinking of you all
She was a great lady n if u were special enough to know her I know she touched your heart in some way.
My thoughts r with u

“The Clock of Life”
I listen to the tick-tock, tick-tock of the clock on the wall
And I begin to think of time, as each second
And each moment ticks by.
A second becomes a minute, a minute an hour
And all too quickly the hours turn into days, months and years!
Along with the tick of the clock, then too, there becomes the
passing of time in our lives.
All too quickly our life is passing by…..
Some of our friends and family grow older, right along with us
While others have not survived the ticking of the clock and
have already departed before us.
However, since our stay here on this divine earth may be
oh so very short
The least one can do is to make sure the stay be one
whereby we made a difference
Think of bringing a smile to someone's face,
To be able to assist others by showing them the love
there is to be had in this life if only we let it in.
Give our family and friends the gift of remembering us,
cherishing life and how we celebrated life
Rather than to have them feel melancholy and anguish for us
Because we neglected the chance to grasp our time,
be it hours, months or years.
Life is not how long we lived but rather the quality of how we lived it!
We all forget to realize that all we really have is now
There may not be that tomorrow
What if we never have tomorrow to tell someone
"I love you"….
Listen to the clock, really, really listen!
It's not too late for us to acquire an inner peace
Or to give the gift of love and understanding
Not yet anyway!

Saying good-bye to you Mary-Lee Chaddock will be the hardest thing I have ever done. You were and will remain my inspiration. There were no limits to what you could and did accomplish and no end to the love, caring and compassion you were always so quick to give to others. You were one of those rare souls whom everyone knew they could turn to in any kind of need and you would always be there for them. If I can live my life trying to emulate your natural goodness I will have a life well lived. May you now be with all those we have loved who have gone before you and I know you will be there to greet me when I arrive. So much love to my little sister. Gail

When I was a teenager, many, many years ago, I worked on the Valley Youth Care Help Line, where she was the coordinator, so I had a great opportunity to get to know her better. She was kind, compassionate, non-judgmental & just had the hugest heart & the friendliest countenance. She lived a life of purpose, and didn't waste it. Nick - I have known your mom since the late '70's and her days at Brunswick Street United Church, her work with Street Corner Recreation and Camp Brunswick. I was one of the kids she worked with - for me she was more than a staff member working with me, she was a mentor for me. I spent numerous weekends in Granville Ferry when I started working for the church, learning lots about special ed students and what supports they needed. I went on to earn my university degree and went to work with students with special needs, this was all because of the enjoyment she got from working with her students. Whenever I was down that way for meetings for work I would connect with her, and I would always eagerly anticipate seeing her at the Tools for Life Conference in October. My trips to the valley will hold a little less sunshinr for me. She was an amazing woman and her passing will leave a huge void in the lives of those she touched. :( Please accept my sincere condolences. Hugs to you. Betty
