Wade, Charlotte Paula, seventh generation resident of Annapolis Royal, died June 24, 2011 at the age of 91 years. She was born December 25, 1919 in Annapolis Royal, N.S. , daughter of David Innes and Maretta Kennedy (King) Wade. Charlotte graduated from Mount Allison University B.Sc., Class of 1942; received her M.A. from Columbia University; and pursued additional studies at Edinburgh University, Scotland and Cornell University. She was a member of the faculty of Acadia University 1947-1952 and 1956-1983 in the Department of Home Economics, teaching clothing design, construction and applied design. While she was studying at Cornell in the 1950's, that school received an important donation of historical clothing. Inspired, she set about creating an historic costume collection for Acadia University (now housed at Kings County Courthouse Museum). Charlotte maintained a life long love of travel, nature, gardening, and historic preservation. She traveled to South America and Germany before she was 2 years old on her father's ship and continued traveling aboard into her eighties. She was proud of being the seventh generation of her family to live in Annapolis Royal, and took on the role of family historian and genealogist after the model set by her great aunt, Margaret Roach. She was an active participant in community affairs as a member of the Annapolis Royal Historical Association, Heritage Society, Annapolis Naturalist Society, North Mountain Hikers, the Fort Anne Heritage Tapestry volunteers, United Church Women, and the Port Royal Monday morning coffee group. She was a life long supporter of the Salvation Army and also supported many children overseas through Save the Children Canada and the Plan. Charlotte's brother, N. Kenmure Wade and his wife Ruth predeceased her. She is survived by Kenmure's family: son David and his wife Clara Wade, daughter Roberta Wade, and daughter Deborah Wade and her husband Robert Breen; four great nephews: Glenn and David Wade, and Patrick and Michael Breen; and her cousins Phyllis (King) Gunn and William King. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of the Kaulbach Family Funeral Home, Annapolis Royal. A funeral service will be held St. George and St. Andrew United Church, Annapolis Royal Saturday July 9, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Annapolis royal with a reception following at the church hall.
