Daniel L Harlow, age 87, of Bridgetown, passed Wednesday, October 29, 2014 in the Veteran's Wing, Soldier's Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Born on May 24, 1927 in Bridgetown, he is the son of the late Walter and the late Louise (Troop) Harlow. Danny was a graduate of Bridgetown High School and the University of Kings College, BSc. After Officers training at Camp Borden, ON, he joined the Royal Canadian Regiment with the rank of Lieutenant. After a short time teaching at Kings Collegiate, Windsor, NS, he was called up in 1950 to serve in the Korean War. Having been wounded, he returned to Bridgetown where he joined the staff of Acadian Distillers, later becoming Vice President and General Manager. In 1972 he and his family built the Bridgetown Motor Hotel. As a proud and active citizen, he was a charter member of both the Bridgetown Lions Club and Bridgetown and Area Historical Society. Danny was a long-time member of the Progressive Conservative Party of Nova Scotia, as well as St. James Anglican Church, the Bridgetown Curling Club and Eden Golf and Country Club. He served as President of the Innkeepers Guild of Nova Scotia and on the Board of the NS Dairy Commission. He served in the West Nova Scotia Regiment for many years becoming their Lieutenant Colonel. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No.033, a Mason and Town Councillor. He played hockey with the Bridgetown Hawks. Through his employer ADL, he raised thousands of dollars for the Bridgetown Hockey Rink and was responsible for bringing in Toronto Maple Leaf hockey stars to benefit Bridgetown minor hockey. Danny enjoyed many happy hours at his cottage on the Annapolis River with family and friends. He is still looking for a sail for his canoe. He is survived by his wife, Nathalie (Hogan) Harlow; children, Jane (Alan Glover), Round Hill, Timothy, Annapolis Royal, Amy (Blake) Dewhirst, Tupperville and Lisa (Max) Fossum, Victoria, BC; sister, Martha Crosbie, Wolfville. He will be sorely missed by his grandchildren, Jessica, Jack, Ben, Alex, Mitchell, Chris, Caitlin, Jameen and great grandson Keir. Daniel was predeceased by his beloved daughter Ann Louise. Visitation will be Sunday, November 2 from 7 to 9 pm in Kaulbach Family Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 385 Granville Street, Bridgetown, NS. The funeral will be held 2:00 pm Monday, November 3 in St. James Anglican Church, Bridgetown, with Rev. Joel Hardy officiating. Burial will be in St. James Anglican Cemetery, Bridgetown.
