Obituary of Raymond Wilfred Sheldon
Raymond W. Sheldon PhD. DSc. – Bridgetown, passed away peacefully at Valley Regional Hospital on February 18, 2024 after a brief illness. Born August 17, 1936 in West Bromwich, England. He emigrated to Canada in 1965 with his young family to begin his career as a research scientist, first with the Fisheries Research Board and later the Department of Fisheries and Oceans. He is survived by his wife of more than 63 years Mary; daughters, Helen (Bill) and Katherine (Michael); son Robert (Geraldine); eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his sister Marlene. He will be fondly remembered by both friends and family, but also in the oceanographic community for his crowning scientific achievement, the discovery of the linear biomass spectrum which bears his name.
