Obituary of Mary Margaret Scott

Mary was born in Toronto and raised in the Niagara Falls area. She attended schools in Stamford and graduated from Stamford Collegiate in 1961.  Mary then came to Toronto and enrolled in the St Michael’s Hospital Nursing School, graduating in 1966. During that time in Toronto Mary met her future husband, John.  They were married in October 1966. She worked briefly at Sunnybrook Hospital and then in several doctor’s offices and on a number of research projects. After her daughter enrolled, Mary became deeply involved in Girl Guides in the Toronto area. She also spent a number of years as a teacher’s assistant in the Special Education Department of Eastern High School of Commerce. After retirement from EHSC, in 1998 she and John moved to their former summer home in Sandy Cove on Digby Neck, Nova Scotia. Here, Mary became deeply involved in volunteer work, Trinity Anglican Church where she sang in the choir for many years.  She also became a Lay Reader in the Diocese of NS & PEI. She enjoyed singing at the NSCF Adult Choir camps and at High C’s in Digby. She was also an avid rug hooker and quilter.

She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Mary is survived by her husband, John of nearly 57 years, son David (Banff, AB),  daughter Alana (Yarmouth, NS), granddaughter Evelyn (Yarmouth), sisters-in-law Mary Millen (Ottawa),Ann Brant (Bellville), Judith Warren (London), four nieces, two nephews and several cousins including (Ms) Jody Rea (Orangeville). In recognition of the outstanding care that Mary received, memorial donations in Mary’s memory may be made to TideView Terrace (74 Pleasant Street, Box 1120, Digby, NS B0V 1A0).

A funeral service will be held at The Church of the Nativity, Sandy Cove, Friday, October 6th at 2:00 PM followed by interment of ashes in the church cemetery, the Rev Jane Clattenburg will officiate assisted by Rev Paul Jennings.
