I have know Bill for a number of years... being that his partner of 45 years is my Aunt (Eileen Spicer) I think of Bill as a member of my Family. Any time I came to Bridgetown to visit Aunt Eileen, Bill would be there upon my arrival and great me with a big smile, a twinkle in his eye, and a firm hand shake. Knowing Bill and Eileen were involved in the W.N.S.R. (My Dad was also as a WW2 West Nova Veteran) I started attending "Memory Club" meetings to chat with other Veterans and their Spouses. I really enjoyed every get together we had. Rest easy Bill...I will miss you forever.

William Goodwin: I knew Bill best through the Order of Good Cheer. Bill was involved with the Executive of the Order as President in 1995-96, then as long-time Treasurer and Communications Officer. The members could depend upon Bill to be the “corporate” memory for the Order and to contribute to its future success.
To me, Bill was a true gentleman, kind and thoughtful and usually accompanied to events by Eileen Spicer. They enjoyed all types of social activities.
I have missed him in the past few years, and I shall always remember him.
We offer our sincere condolences.

Bill Goodwin was my first CO when I joined the West NSR. After his retirement I got to know Bill much better through the West NSR Valley Branch Memory Club and WNSRRA. Bill was a gentleman in all ways and respected by all who served with him. He and Eileen were a great team and did so much for so many. RIP Sir, your service to your country will not be forgotten. Semper Fidelis.

Bill was a devoted member of the Gordon Providence United Church choir when my mother Mary was the organist. His dad Ray and mother Rena were also members of that remarkable choir. When William Black United Church came on stream, he continued to support the choir to the extent that he was honoured at a special church service on November 15, 2015 The citation read: In Appreciation to Bill Goodwin we are pleased to honour Bill's many years of dedicated service as a member of the choirs of Gordon Providence United Church and William Black United Church. Psalm 100 says: "Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands. Serve the Lord with gladness.Come before his presence with singing." Yes, Bill made a joyful noise! He was also a member of the Bridgetown Male Choir directed by the well-respected Dr. O.R.Stone.

I would like to offer my sincere condolences to the friends and surviving family on the passing of Bill Goodwin, Bridgetown Legion member and retired Canadian Forces serviceman. I remember Bill on my visits home to Bridgetown as a very warm person with a kind heart, a good sense of humour and a quick smile. A fine example of the kind of folks Nova Scotia is known for, good people. I hope our paths cross again brother, somewhere in the great beyond. Rest in Peace. We Will Remember You. I will raise a beer to your memory. Sincerely, WO Steve Boyd, Canadian Forces Military Police, Islamabad, Pakistan.

It is indeed with deep grief that I learn of the passing of one who has been a dear friend and one who has considered me as a friend. I highly respected Bill and, as everyone who knew him, was more than a wonder to be a man who, without the slightest thought, would be front and center in not only helping those in need, but leading the charge and doing so with care and a smile. He was a true leader!
Bill was one of those “special” people who affected, or even changed for the better, so many lives. He was a man who gave so much to so many so freely.
I have known Bill for over 40 years and there is no one I admired more. I’m proud that he considered me a friend and I’m proud that he was my friend. My most sincere and heartfelt condolences to Eileen, his family and community at his passing. We will all be better for knowing and enjoying such a wonderful soul. Lloyd Smith.

Jan and I offer our condolences to Eileen and the Goodwin family. May memories of the good times spent together help to ease the sorrow you feel at this time.
Bill and I were good friends with the WNSRRA as a common and passionate interest. Jan and I always enjoyed seeing Bill and Eileen at various functions. Bill spent much of his retirement in volunteering, and it suited his personality very well. Unquestionably, Bill was a people person who was known for his sincere, firm handshake, his genuine smile, his loyalty, and his very positive and friendly manner.
Goodbye, my friend. Thank you for your service to Canada and Canadians, especially to West Novas. We are sad to see you go, but we know you gave us your best; we could not ask for more. Semper Fidelis.

To the family, loving partner, Eileen and to Bill’s dear colleagues and friends, I offer my deepest condolences. I had the greatest of pleasure to have met and provided care for Bill over the past year and in his final moments.
Getting to know Bill was easy, mostly due to the fact that he was so well-rounded and a conversationalist at heart. We had the same gift of gab and I will hold onto these beautiful moments of our many chats from favourite color, to the Halifax Herald political cartoon, our faith in God, his time in the military and his dear family and partner of over 4 decades, Eileen.
I so looked forward to each day with Bill knowing that as much as he appreciated the care he received, I too was learning a great deal from him. Thank you for all the times; for the Remembrance Day reading of, “In Flander’s Field,” singing to the piano as I played your favourite hymns, enjoying your signature drink and eating clementines and ice-cream as evening snacks while we talked about the weather and current affairs.
Rest now Bill and know how much you were loved and how deeply you will be missed! Until we meet in heaven ~ keep singing! XO Susan Robinson-Burnie

I always enjoyed Bill's company - He was funny and loved to share his sense of humour. But he could also take a joke. One evening as we struggled to balance the cash for the Order of Good Cheer... Bill was frustrated that it was out $5. It had to balance to the quarter cent! As we recounted the cash receipts one of members came up and noticed the frustration. instead of helping... he chortled... Only Bill Goodwin would recount the $20's looking for a $5 difference. I laughed,.. perhaps too hard... I think Bill went for a long drive in his Jaguar the next day. And was back next month balancing the cash... a fine gentleman!

It was a pleasure to work alongside Bill at the Bridgetown Legion. At the time I was branch Secretary and I knew I always had this watchful eye looking over the minutes. Bill was very precise in whatever he was involved in but still a joy to know and work with. He will certainly be missed by many.
