Hi Lois,
I don't think we ever met, but Joe talked about you. He was my Tai Chi buddy, and a new Scrabbler. When I moved out of the province, he took care of my cat Coco. Coco met his end on the highway, but, no matter, he had lived more than nine lives. If only we could! Joe was great company, so well read, and had such a fine taste in music. Miss him :-) Now I'm retired in BC where my daughter lives, still practicing Tai Chi and Scrabbling. If you could, please let me know where Joe's ashes are placed. Thank you.

Joe and Danny Jefferson and I were briefly a gang during our teen years. One of my most vivid memories is the day Joe demonstrated to us that he had taught himself to play guitar astoundingly well. I’m still impressed. Rest easy.

Dear Lois, very sad to hear of Joe’s passing. Our thoughts are turned to you and all with whom Joe was closest. He and I were classmates all through elementary school in Bridgetown. My parents and your parents were good friends and your Mom and mine were very active members of the United Church. I sat behind Joe in Mrs.Hoyt’s kindergarten class. He was a handsome young lad, very quiet and well behaved. One day, Mrs. Hoyt, whom we all feared, had to leave our classroom briefly. She told us to “sit at your desk, with your hands folded and don’t make a move or sound while I am gone!” She was gone a while and I spent all of my time trying to get Joey to turn around and talk to me, by tickling his ear with a branch, but he sat stoically facing forward. Just as the teacher returned, my voice was the only one she heard: “Joey, turn around!” She called me to the front of the room, put a baby’s bonnet on my head, a bottle in my hand, a “baby” sign on my back and sent us out for recess. While the older kids made fun of me, Joe came over and stayed quietly near me for support. As if it were yesterday, I remember him conducting our “Rhythm Band” in which I got to play the sticks! Rest peacefully, dear Joe. From Carol Jefferson Goodrow

I extend my most sincere sense of condolence to you, Lois, on the passing of Joe. It seems in these perilous times that Bridgetown people keep disappearing, a distressing thought. A prized possession of our family is the personalized quilt that your mother Murda crafted for my mother Mary upon Mum's retirement from the organ at Gordon Providence United Church in 1986. Please feel free to drop in for a visit the next time you are home in Bridgetown, Lois.

Lois: So sorry to find out about Joe's passing. He was a great friend to us all. When we moved, we missed his daily visits, and enjoyed his calls to keep us up to date. He was always ready to give a hand if I needed it, and even when my son shot an arrow into the top of his garage he kept an eye out for it falling out. It took two years for him to bring it over and innocently state that he thought it belonged at our house. He will be fondly remembered by Mom and I, as well as my children and grandchildren, who he watched grow up.
