Dear Dorothy, Arlene and Andrew, I was so sorry to hear of Mr. McIntosh's passing (sorry - I can't call him Don). Lots of great memories of the McIntosh house many years ago where we (mostly) stayed out of trouble and Mr. McIntosh only rarely threatened to arrest us (always with a twinkle in his eye). I recall, for example, a road trip where Mr. McIntosh showed extraordinary patience as he drove us to the Metro Centre in the early 80s to attend an epic Loverboy concert, He was a great supporter of the community, a friend and mentor to many and he will be very much missed. Thoughts and prayers to you all.

Dear Dorothy, Arlene and Andrew,
I have really enjoyed seeing all of the pictures that you recently posted of your dad (and husband)…a real walk down memory lane with such precious memories. Don will be dearly remembered and missed for his kindness, devotion to family and faith, and integrity. I was reflecting this week and thought about my many visits to the McIntosh’s over the years - in the 1980's in grade school, in the 1990's when my daughter Kathleen was a newborn, and more recently, when I made numerous trips to Nova Scotia when my dad was ill, before he passed away in 2019. I would be chatting away with Dorothy – my former Sunday school teacher (who always makes me feel like the only girl in the world, whether I was 5 or now in my 50's!) and Don would be there too and although more quiet, he would graciously and sincerely inquire about how I was doing as well as my family and chat a bit before he went off to tend to other things on that given day, like gardening or chores, leaving Dorothy and I to continue on in the kitchen over a cup of tea. I only got to know another side of Don when he and I did the census together, during my short stint living back in Bridgetown about 25 years ago. Although I was much more hesitant, Don felt so comfortable going door-to-door and talked to everyone with such ease, quickly gaining their confidence. His training in the RCMP was clearly evident. We had lots of fun together and I will always think of him with great fondness and respect. I am so very sorry to hear of his passing. Hugs to you all, Love, Carol

Dorothy and family. I was saddened to hear of Don's passing when I saw his obituary / tribute in the RCMP Veteran's Association site this morning. When I saw his photo I was immediately taken back years to when you and Don were such caring friends of my father and mother Donald and Eva Neily. Don brought such joy in his positive tone, his upbeat comments and sense of humor and compassion. He was a huge contributor to the people of the Valley as you well know including his value to the choir where he and my father and others shared in their worship and faith. I wish all of you strength at this time and to the future. Through Don's generosity and that of your own I am certain when I say that many of us who grew up in his time learned to pay forward through his examples. God's Speed to all of you. So sad to hear that Don has left us for his Heavenly Home , sad for us , happy for him. Don was one of the nicest people we ever had the pleasure of meeting , always a kind word and a genuine interest in how you were doing. So glad to have seen and chatted a bit with Don in the Pharmasave parking lot quite recently. Although he was not doing well himself , as usual , he was more concerned about us. Our many sympathies to Don's loving family ,you were truly blessed to have this gem in your life. RIP Don , you are going to be missed by us all !

Mitch Soucie, Kentville,N.S. Dorothy and Family, I was suprised and saddened to read of Don's passing. He was my shift supervisor in Truro Detachment, my first Nova Scotia posting. Those early years were probably the best in most of our careers. Don was such a good person and was always interested in how and what you were doing. In more recent years I would see him at vet meetings and would have a little chat. I think back to those times often with fond memories. You and your families are in my thoughts and prayers. RIP Don.

I served with Don McIntosh when he was my shift supervisor at Truro Detachment of the R.C.M.P. back in the 70's. Don always took the time to discuss what each one of us were doing and how things went yesterday on our shift. Don always had a smile as he greeted each of us and the general public who came to the counter with their enquiries. Over the years I have met Don and Dorothy at R.C.M.P. veterans gatherings in Halifax & a couple of times bumped into Don at the Apple Seed coffee shop on our way through Bridgetown. Don always was pleased to meet up with members of the Force and always enquired about fellow members who served with him at the different locations. I have memories of visiting Don & Dorothy's home on Christmas Eve as Santa Clause & I recall that every year. Dorothy & family, Jean Anne & I send our condolences and please know that you will be in our thoughts and prayers as you make your way through this dark time in your lives. God bless and give you the strength as you deal with your loss.

Dorothy, Arlene, Andrew and families,
I am saddened to hear of Don's passing. Don was my immediate supervisor when I was posted to Bridgetown Detachment in 1978. I very much enjoyed working with Don and appreciated the supervisory guidance he provided to me. Don was the "go to guy" for anything policy related and he knew the Operational and Administrative manuals like he had written the different volumes himself. Maybe he had a photographic memory that he never told me about as he never ceased to amaze me with his knowledge of those books! Don was a family orientated gentleman and those traits carried over to his treatment of citizens he encountered in his duties. He was very well liked and respected by the citizens of Annapolis County and beyond. I remember his last day shift like it was yesterday. Don walked out the door proud of his Force time and was ready for the next chapter in his life. With sympathy,
Brian Oldford

Growing up, I only had one grandfather as my dad's father passed before I was born. When I was in elementary school, I had the pleasure of meeting Don and Dorothy. Our relationship started as pen pals between Sunday school children and church elders, and blossomed into getting to know them more as I joined the church choir. They would pick me up for practice every Thursday and drove me home afterwards, usually making a detour for ice cream. They celebrated my report cards and when I got my driver's license, attended my drama and band performances, and always were interested in the events of my life. Their house was my favourite place to watch the fireworks on Canada Day in Bridgetown. As I grew up and moved away, they were always important people I visited when I was home. They were some of the first people I introduced my future husband to, they loved and gave gifts to my son as though he was their own grandson, and I was so pleased when they were able to travel to attend my wedding. As my son's disability became apparent they shared many stories with me of their own grandson, who also had cerebral palsy, and how I reminded them of their own daughter- advocating and pushing for the best for her son.
I was lucky enough to have a socially distanced visit with Don one last time a few months ago. It was obvious that he was beginning to slow down physically, but his wit was as quick as ever. I'm so thankful I had one last beautiful visit with "Grampy Don". I will always think of the advice and stories he shared with me over the years with fondness. I think the best way I could honour him is to go out for an ice cream.
Thinking of you, Grandma Dorothy, Andrew and Arlene. As you always say Dorothy, sending you love and big hugs. From Amy, Caio and Jack.
