Donald Hugh Duggan

It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Donald Hugh Duggan. Surrounded by his loving family, Donnie passed away on the beautiful sunny

morning of Tuesday, August 27th 2019 at the Annapolis Community Health Centre, Annapolis Royal. Born in Halifax on January 3rd 1947, he was the son of the late Jack and Hildried

Duggan. After having spent his early childhood years in Granville Ferry, the family relocated to Halifax where Donnie worked in health care and prior to retirement at Mount Saint

Vincent university. In 1992, Donnie, Fran and the boys settled in the Annapolis Royal area where he came out of retirement to “Drive his Miss Daisy.” A kind and caring husband, father

and grandfather, Donnie’s most important purpose and mission in life was always the love, care and protection of his family. He was so proud of his two sons and their

accomplishments and several years ago when he became a grandfather, he was captivated with joy and delight, treasuring time with them and sharing pictures and

providing updates of his “little hunnies” at any opportunity. Donnie loved to travel and he and Fran enjoyed many trips to sunny places over the winter seasons. His favourite holiday season was

Christmas where he loved to entertain, put up the biggest Christmas tree in Annapolis County and recite ‘The Night Before Christmas’. Donnie loved his time at the lake watching the sunset,

listening to the loons and to his diverse playlist of music. He loved Cape Breton, good food, a smooth drink of scotch and his coffee. Donnie loved life.

He is survived by the love of his life Fran (Munro), sons Christopher (Jenn) Dartmouth, Ryan (Lacey) and grandchildren Danica and Brendan Calgary, Alberta,

as well as his extended families, The Duggan’s, Munro’s, Macdougall’s and Aucoin’s. Donnie was much loved by his nieces and nephews. Besides both parents, he was predeceased

by his only brother Jack and his in-laws Jim and Murdena Munro. Donnie’s family wishes to express gratitude and appreciation for the wonderful care

and support he received from Dr. Ken Buchholz and the extended healthcare team at The Annapolis Community Health Centre and to family and friends for their

tremendous love and support over the last difficult year. Cremation has taken place and burial will occur in Cape Breton at a later date.

Donations in Donnie’s memory may be made to the Annapolis West Health Foundation in support of Palliative Care at the Annapolis Community Health Centre,

Annapolis Royal. A celebration of Donnie’s life will be held on Saturday, September 7th 2019 at the Mic Mac AAC, 192 Prince Albert Road, Dartmouth from 4-8pm. We ask you to bring

your smiles and memories of Donnie.
