Smith, Donald Eugene, 89 of Bridgetown passed away April 22, 2019 in Soldiers Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Born in Middleton he was a son of the late John and Jean (Wagner) Smith. Donald was part owner and operator of Everett & Smith Chrysler dealership for over 50 years. He was a member of the Bridgetown Volunteer Fire Department for over 40 years and served as Deputy Chief for many years. Don loved spending time at his cottage on Milbury Lake were he and Joyce won many awards for Rural Beautification in Annapolis County for their gardens. He was a tinkerer and there wasn’t anything he wouldn’t try to fix or repair. In his younger years he enjoyed hunting, fishing and snowmobiling. He was inducted into the Bridgetown Sports Hall of Fame in 2012 as a member of the Bridgetown High School Hockey team that won the Provincial Championship in 1946-47. Family were the most important thing to Don, he was a kind and gentle soul. He is survived by his devoted wife of 68 years Joyce Louise (Wentzell), son John (Rowena), daughter Sherry (Don “Tex” Robinson) all of Bridgetown; beloved granddaughter Chloe Smith, several nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his twin brother Douglas. Following Don’s wishes cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation or funeral service. A graveside service will be held at a later date in Riverside Cemetery. The family would like to say a special thank you to the staff on Medical Floor at Valley Regional Hospital and to the Staff on Medical Floor, TCU and the Veteran’s Unit at Soldiers Memorial for the excellent care they provided to Don.
