Obituary of Franz Josef Binder

Please share a memory of Franz to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Franz Josef Binder – Age 73, Lawrencetown, Annapolis County, Nova Scotia.

It is with great sadness the family of Franz Binder announce his passing in the presence of his loved ones at the QEII Infirmary in Halifax on 22 March 2019.

He will be dearly missed by his wife of 49 years Ingrid (Georg); son Markus (Carolyn); and grandchildren, Lorelei Margaret and Felix Josef.  He is survived by his brothers, Alois, Helmut (Edda), Berthold (Monika) and Herbert (Andrea); sisters, Anneliese (Rudi) Holdermann and Sonja (Dietmar) Ries; nieces, Annette, Sabine, Caroline, Simone, Birgitt; and nephews, Alexander, Daniel, Stefan, Thomas, Peter, Michael.  Franz was predeceased by his parents and sister, Maria Theresia Augustdörfer.

Born in Andreasberg, Czech Republic, he was a son of the late Franz and Anna (Bernkopf) Binder. As a young child Franz and his parents moved to Dühren, Germany, as refugees from  Böhmerwald. He spent much of his life in Dühren until he realized his long-time dream to move to Canada in 2003. Once in Canada, Franz quickly made a close network of friends who were very special to him. He loved to hunt – Absolut. He had many enjoyable hunting trips – including those to Hungary, Yugoslavia, and Russia – the memories of which he loved to share with everyone.  Nie um eine Weisheit verlegen, welche sich meistens auch bewahrheitet hat.

The family would like extend thanks to the nurses and staff at the Neurology Ward of the QEII Infirmary for their care, kindness, and support during a difficult time.  We would also like to thank the nurses and staff of Soldiers Memorial Hospital for their care.

Following Franz’s wishes cremation has taken place.  Visitation will be held 7-9 pm Thursday, 28 March, with a funeral service at 2:00 pm Friday, 29 March; both at the Kaulbach Family Funeral Home, 385 Granville Street, Bridgetown.  Rev. Brian Wallace officiating.

Donations in Franz’s memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.  Online condolences may be made at www.kaulbachfamilyfuneralhome.com
