Obituary of David Gordon Cottenden
David Gordon Cottenden QC passed away peacefully with his loving wife by his side December 19th at the Annapolis Community Health Centre.
He was born July 4, 1942 in Springhill, NS, to Murray (deceased) and Mary (Hayes) Cottenden.
David achieved his Bachelor of Commerce Degree from Dalhousie University and his Law degree from Dalhousie School of Law. He married Anne Hicks in 1965 and they moved to Anne's hometown of Bridgetown in 1972 where he joined the law firm Orlando and Hicks. He served as Bridgetown Town Solicitor for 8 years, Federal Crown Prosecutor for Annapolis County for 12 years, and was appointed to Queens Council in 1988. The majority of his practice was devoted to Divorce and Family Law; Civil Litigation; Estate Practice and Probate; and Property Law.
David was a philatelist specializing in covers. He loved animals and had many cherished pets throughout his life. He enjoyed gardening (especially roses), feeding the birds, listening to classical music, and playing the drums. His club and service work included 10 years as a Lions Club member.
David was devoted to his family all of whom love and miss him greatly. In addition to his beloved wife Anne, he is survived by his two daughters and their families: Eranie (Joel), Luke, Josie, Anna, Gabriel; and Ingrid (Shane), Amber, Heimdall; his brother Bruce and family; and his brother-in-law John Allan and family.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, December 23, 2:00 PM at Kaulbach Family Funeral Home, Bridgetown.
