Hello Meg’s Family,
I was a police officer with Meg in London. I have just heard about her death.
We lived next to each other in the police section house, like a hostel, in Hackney. It was about 1965-6. She was very glamorous and very fashionable. I loved her dearly.
When she went to Canada hoping to be the first female Mountie we communicated a bit. More recently we got together again and I had an email and card from her each Christmas.
I have reminded her how she would go out with her white plastic boots, like Courreges, mini skirts and very up to the minute fashions. Always nail varnish on, white or blue pearlised. But she would leave her room as a tip where she had tried clothes and and discarded them. She always looked fabulous but the room!!! She said that she could not remember that.
We talked a lot, she had a very different upbringing to me and I loved hearing about her life.
She was so proud of you all as a family. She clearly loved looking after the horses and was proud of your lives in Canada.
I am so sorry for your loss but I know that she was struggling.
Lots of love to you all. I know that you will comfort each other now.
I know that we will all miss her very much.

It was with shock and sadness that I learned of the great loss that has befallen the family and friends of dear Meg.
I was at The Union Jack Club in London, England, last Friday, November 30th, attending the annual reunion of our former colleagues of Cannon Row police station when I heard the sad news from Sioban, a former policewoman colleague of ours. It was through this association that I first contacted Meg some fourteen years ago and, both being Canadian as well as a British citizens, we agreed it would be fun to meet up. After regular correspondence, my wife Ali and I travelled to Nova Scotia and enjoyed meeting Meg and Ralph immensely, maintaining contact thereafter.
We enjoyed sharing family news as well as swapping stories from our time at Cannon Row and although Meg had left for Canada two years before I arrived at the station, many of the characters we knew added to our connection and much laughter was had - at their expense! We were fortunate enough to meet Adam, when we visited Banff, and found that he had inherited her open, generous and friendly nature. Her letters to us were always full of the great pride she had in her family.
We hadn’t been in quite as regular contact over the past few years, but a card and a note would usually arrive on our doormat at Christmas and we often talked about how we would enjoy a reunion, when we could once again return to Nova Scotia, something we were hoping to do next Summer.
Ali and I thought of Meg as a good friend who, although an ocean away, was someone whose company we knew we could re-join seamlessly. We so enjoyed knowing her and our meetings with her and Ralph in Annapolis Royal remain treasured memories of our friendship.
With great sadness, but with grateful thanks for having known her, we send our deepest condolences to Ralph, Adam and to the other members of the family we never met in person, but who Meg spoke of with such love and affection.

With fond memories of Meg in the Met. We met on our Standard Car Course at Hendon in 1968. Probably the best course in the world to learn to drive.
She was immensely popular with her colleagues. So glad she hooked up in recent years with Margaret and Sandra and families also in Nova Scotia.
Deepest sympathy to all her family
RIP Meg

Dear Ralph and family,
We are saddened that you have lost such a vibrant and lovely lady.
We shared her background with the London Police and, though we only got to know her later in life, our shared experiences formed a strong bond in friendship. We are so glad to have got to know Meg as we have.
May she rest in peace.
