Gertrude (Gert) Aileen Taylor Bent, 78, of Granville Centre, passed away October 14, 2018 in the Annapolis Community Health Centre surrounded by her loving family and friends. Born in Carleton Corner, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Idella (Grant) Taylor. Gert was a member of the Granville Centre Baptist Church, serving as Church Clerk and a member of the Choir. A recipient of the Provincial Volunteer Award in 2009, Gert gave time to many causes including the Annapolis Community Health Centre Auxiliary, Chair of the Granville Centre Community Hall Association, Past Secretary of the Annapolis Liberal Association, Treasurer of the Wadeville Cemetery, organizer of the Heart and Stroke Campaign for Granville Centre, and many other charitable organizations. Gert was also a member of the Annapolis Royal Legion No. 21, and for a brief time she served in the Reserves. Gert was a caring and dedicated Teacher and Guidance Counsellor, retiring from the Annapolis Royal Regional Academy. She enjoyed her time at Milbury Lake, especially the jamborees. Gert is survived by her husband of nearly 60 years, Ralph, her children; Robbie (Martha), Round Hill; Jeffrey (Terri), Hammonds Plains; Andrea (Stephen) McNeil, Upper Granville, and Jane (Rick) Height, Kingston; her step-daughter, Donna Holmes, Bridgetown. Nanny will be missed greatly by her nine grandchildren and three great- grandchildren. Gert is also survived by her siblings: Garnet (Linda), West Paradise; Alberta Spurr, Bridgetown; Wayne, West Paradise; Richard (Norma), Lawrencetown; Daniel (Dorothy), Wilmot; Deborah (Raymond) Fiske, Middlefield; sister-in-law Sandy Taylor (Bridgewater); as well as many nieces and nephews. Gert was predeceased by her brother David and infant brother Blair. Visitation will be Wednesday, October 17 from 7:00 to 9:00 at the Kaulbach Family Funeral Home, Annapolis Royal. The funeral service will be Thursday, October 18 at 1 p.m. at the Granville Ferry United Baptist Church with Rev. Dr.  Elizabeth Legassie officiating. Family flowers only. Donations in memory of Gert may be made to the Annapolis West Health Foundation Palliative Care, Wadeville Cemetery or the Granville Centre Community Hall Association.
