Apt, Robert Boyd - 89 of Port Wade, Annapolis County, passed away September 10, 2011, in the DVA Unit, Soldiers Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Born in Port Wade, he was a son of the late Willard and Edith (Pulford) Apt. Robert was a veteran of the Second World War, who served in Holland, France, Italy and Germany. He was a member of the 88th Light Anti-Aircraft Battery and the R.C.O.C. from 1951 until his retirement in 1972. In 1967, he was part of a peacekeeping mission in Egypt. He enjoyed woodworking and made great cider. He had a wonderful sense of humor and was kind and generous. Robert was very proud of his children, adored his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Pauline (Ellis); daughter, Susan, Kentville; sons, Donald (Christine), Parker Mountain Road, Gary (Sandra), Cambridge, Ralph, Annapolis Royal; sister, Doris (Malcom) Sproul, Tremont; brother, Frederick "Ted", Ottawa; seven grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by sister, Margaret Evans. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of the Kaulbach Family Funeral Home, Annapolis Royal. Visitation will be held 7-9 pm Tuesday, with a Legion service, Branch 21 held at 7pm. A funeral service will be held 2pm Wednesday, September 14, with Rev. Robert McCarthy officiating, all from Kaulbach Family Funeral Home, Annapolis Royal. Burial will follow in Port Wade Cemetery. Donations in memory may be sent to The Veterans' Unit at Soldiers' Memorial Hospital, Middleton or to Kidney Foundation of Canada, Nova Scotia Branch.
