Obituary of Chester LeRoy Potter
Potter, Chester “Chet” Leroy – Passed away peacefully, age 90, on May 27, 2018 in Bridgetown with his family by his side. Chet was born in Clementsvale, NS on September 7, 1927 to Stewart and Gladys (née Simpson) Potter. Chet spent most of his adult life living in nearby Deep Brook where he was employed with Ditmars & McNeil, the Colonial Arms, and as an electrician at CFB Cornwallis. Chet enjoyed the outdoors and took pride in maintaining an immaculate home and property. In retirement he learned to play the fiddle, playing with the Bridgetown Fiddlers and at the Red Barn in West Springhill. An accomplished craftsman, he made fiddles for himself and family members. Chet is survived by his devoted wife of 67 years, Jean (née Wilkins) Potter and his children Nancy (Brian) Wear of Allains Creek; Gail (David) Foley of Halifax; David (Elaine) Potter of Cambridge; and Joyce “Jody” (Curtis) Cummings of Meductic, NB; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. As the last surviving sibling, Chet was predeceased by his sisters Gertrude Potter, Vivian (Chester) Harris, and Genevieve (Donald) Merritt. A memorial service will take place on Thursday, May 31, at 2:00 pm at Kaulbach Family Funeral Home in Annapolis Royal with Rev. Dr. Randy Legassie officiating and a reception to immediately follow. A family burial will follow at Clementsvale Baptist Cemetery. The family would like to thank Dr. Ken Buchholz and the staff at Mountain Lea Lodge for their kindness and excellent care.
