Obituary of Harold Arthur Kay

Kay, The Rev’d Dr. Harold Arthur – 90, passed on April 2, 2017. Born on January 22, 1927 in Yarmouth. He was the son of the late Arthur and Grace (Selvage) Kay. After graduating high school, Harold served in the Canadian Army (Active 1944 - 45). He was discharged on “demobilization” in 1945. He earned a B.A. at Dalhousie University and his L.th. from University of Kings College. He served in university O.T.C. chaplain corps from 1947-1952. Harold answered his call to service the Lord and was ordained a priest in The Anglican Church in 1952. He served in the parishes of Neil’s Harbour, Port Greville and Clements; as well as The Church of the Good Shepherd, Wichita Falls, Texas; and St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, Woodbury Heights, New Jersey. On his return home to Canada, Harold continued his education. He received a B.D. in New Testament from Trinity College, Toronto. He also earned a Ph.D in Biblical Hebrew from the University of St. Andrew’s, Scotland. He taught at Huron College, London Ontario for 21 years. On his retirement, Harold settled in Clementsport where he ran a hobby farm. At the same time serving as supply priest in various churches from Yarmouth to Kentville. He was also Priest in charge of the Parish of Rosette for five years (from where he had many fond memories). Harold was an artist and author. He was a member of St. Edward’s Anglican Church, Clementsport; The Royal Canadian Legion, Br. 122 and The Good Neighbours Club. He is survived by his best friend and companion, Anne; children, Stephen (Margaret), Hal (Gail), Deborah (Will), David (Ken), Sarah (Chris) and Peter (Stacey); grandchildren, Rachael (Ryan), Matthew, Nathaniel, Vanessa, Baily, Jennifer (Phillip), Madeline, Jarvis, Yardley, Alex and Brianne; great grandchildren, Liam. Penelope and Abigail; sister, Barbara Reading, Coburg, Ontario; brother, Robert, Niagara Falls, Ontario. Thanks to the medical staff at the Valley Regional Hospital and Annapolis Community Health Centre, Palliative Care for your special care and compassion and to Wendy at Kaulbach Family Funeral Home for your help during this difficult time. Following Harold’s wishes cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Kaulbach Family Funeral Home, Annapolis Royal. Also at his request, a graveside service will be held Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at 2:00 pm in The Old St. Edwards Anglican Church Cemetery, Clementsport with The Rev’d Mark Marshall officiating. In lieu of flowers donations made in Harold’s memory may be sent to the Anglican Parish of Clements or Royal Canadian Legion Br. 122, Clementsport.
