Buchanan, Dennis Ivan, 74 of Allains Creek, Annapolis County passed away July 30, 2011 at home. Born in Springhill, N.S. he was the son of the late Ivan M. and Reta M. (O'Brien) Buchanan. He is survived by his wife of 52 years Claire (Coleman), daughters: Jan (Oliver) Ross and Kim (Gregg) Longmire, grandsons Kyle, Ian and Bruce Longmire, step grandson Matthew Ross and step grand daughter Melinda Ross, and two great grandchildren Bailey and Maddison Ross; two brothers: Arthur (Coleen) of Manotic, Ont. and Brian (Barbara) of Comox, BC. Dennis served for 28 years in the Canadian Armed Forces with the Regiment of Canadian Guards 2nd Battalion and The Royal Canadian Regiment 3rd Battalion. After leaving the forces with the rank of Master Warrant Officer he established and operated a Tool Sharpening and Equipment Rental business until retirement at age 65. He was an active member of St. George and St. Andrew United Church in Annapolis Royal serving on several committees over the years. He served a number of years with the Annapolis Royal Lions Club and was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 21, Annapolis Royal. Outside of his family his main interest was with the Ancient Free & Accepted Masons of Nova Scotia. He was a Past Master of Annapolis Royal Lodge #33, a Past High Priest of Eureka Chapter #5 Royal Arch Masons, a Past Thrice Illustrious Master of Austin Bentley Council #15, a Past District Deputy Grand Master and a Past District Grand Superintendent. He was an avid golfer who thoroughly enjoyed playing with family and friends at the Annapolis Royal golf and Country Club. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of the Kaulbach Family Funeral Home, Annapolis Royal. There will be no visitation at the funeral home by request. A Legion service will be held at 7:00 p.m. followed by a Masonic Funeral Service at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Kaulbach Family Funeral Home, Annapolis Royal. Funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday August 5, 2011 at St. George and St. Andrew United Church, Annapolis Royal with Rev. Robert McCarthy officiating followed by a reception and visiting in the church hall. A private family interment will take place following the reception.
