My condolences to Michael and David. I shall miss seeing him if I ever have another occasion to visit Halifax, but am very grateful that I was able to visit and chat with him last year. We had a long and rewarding friendship since our early days in Upper Clements and Annapolis Royal during the war, followed by many visits and gathering with friends and fellow evacuees. He and Marg. also visited us in Deep Cove, Vancouver Island after my retirement here from Ottawa.
He was a source of historical items relating to our evacuation, a great story teller, and a generous host, with a marvelous sense of humour. He will be fondly remembered in the minds and hearts of those who remain to treasure his life.

Dear David, Micheal and families,
I was very sorry to learn of your father's passing, a huge loss for sure. My mother,
Lillian Anderson Davdson was your mothers first cousin. I was about 10 when I
And Katherine Bowlby were flower girls at your parents wedding. I remember parts of that day and was very honoured to be in their wedding party. Occasionally
Katherine and I would have the great fun of spending time with your very dear grandmother Mille and Norman on the farm. Millie was very kind and always lots
Of fun as was my grandmother Violet, Aunt Millies sister.
It is very sad to see the older generation leaving but I have many precious memories of my Bridgetown relatives as I'm sure you do too. May those memories
' walk ' closely with you in the days and times ahead.
Affectionately,
Barbara MacQuarrie

To Mike and David Haikings,
Just saying hi and have been thinking of you two since your dads passing. I understand his health hasn't been good for some time but he is at peace now and with your mother.
I'll always remember his dry sense of humor especially when in my dads company. All the best for you and your families in this New Year.

Mike & Family
Was sorry to read of your dads passing. Gordie worked with him (one of the originals!) and yourself for many years with Public Works. John was a great human being. We enjoyed the times we spent with John. I found him to be a very sociable person who enjoyed life. My condolances to you and your family at this time.

John was an experienced Project Manager when I joined Public Works Canada in 1983. He was well respected by those worked with him, by our clients at Small Craft Harbours and Transport Canada, and the many contractors who built and repaired wharves along the coast of Nova Scotia. He was very generous in sharing his knowledge and experience in managing marine projects, and was a great mentor for those of us starting at Public Works. I had the opportunity to travel with John on numerous field trips to wharf repair projects both in South West Nova Scotia and Cape Breton. He was always in a good cheer and full of anecdotes.
He was firm but fair with contractors, which I think explained why he was so effective in managing projects. He always listened to the fishermen, which meant our projects better met their needs. Our clients often expressed their appreciation of his efforts in delivering their marine programs.
My condolences to Mike, David and family.

Dear Michael and David:
It is with sadness we learned of your Dad passing away when we read the newspaper today. You both will certainly miss him.
When he lived in the Penhorn area, I remember him as a quiet man. However when I was investigating different styles of music, I discovered he loved Dixieland style music and that he had quite a number of Dixieland genre records. He shared these albums with me and enjoyed discussing the music of that era.
Sincere sympathy to John's family and friends at this difficult time.
