Obituary of Irene Demone Rafuse

RAFUSE, Irene (Pat) Demone of Bridgetown, passed away on Saturday, June 4th, in the Annapolis Royal Nursing Home. Born in Bridgetown, she was the daughter of the late Mable Callahan and raised in part by her beloved grandparents, Frank and Mildred MacKenzie. Pat spent most of her working life at United Elastic in Centrelea and as a PCW at the Adult Residential Centre (ARC) in Bridgetown. She was predeceased by her mother and her daughter, Bronwen (Fredericks). She is survived by her sons, Brian (Lisa) of Connecticut and Bronson (Joanne) of Bridgetown; grandchildren, Kimberly, William, Christopher, Erin, Melissa, Alycia, Petra and Gareth; several great-grandchildren. Pat loved a good game of Scrabble or cards, volunteering with RCL Branch 33 Ladies Auxiliary, doing the daily puzzles in the Chronicle Herald. She was well known for the excellence of her jams, jellies, beets and chow, as a “yardseller” and for the wild ducks she fed for years at the pond “across the road” and often at her back door. In later years, she enjoyed the fellowship and comfort of the Bridgetown Baptist Church, attending jam sessions and making sure that all visitors sign the “Guest Book”. Visitation will take place on Tuesday, June 7th, 7-9 PM at Kaulbach Family Funeral Home, Bridgetown. Funeral service will be held at Bridgetown United Baptist Church Wednesday, June 8th at 11AM, with Rev. Brian Wallace officiating, followed by a reception.
