Obituary of Ernest Kirkpatrick Whitman

Whitman, Ernest Kirkpatrick “Kirk” – 91, Round Hill, Annapolis Co., passed away June 2, 2015, in the Annapolis Community Health Centre, Annapolis Royal. Born on October 24, 1923 to the late William and Grace Louise (Williams) Whitman. He joined the army in 1941, and was posted to England for training on the Bofor guns, then to Italy, Belgium, Holland and Germany. He returned to Canada in 1945. In 1947, he married June Munro, and they have one son, Arthur, Halifax. Kirk rejoined the Army and was posted to Germany for one year, returned to Canada, and had many postings, Alberta, Service Corps School, Ottawa, then to Greenwood Air Force Base, from where he retired. He was predeceased by three brothers, Rufus, Reagh, and Ira. He has over sixty five years in Masonic Lodge and also in the order of the Eastern Star. He as the recipient of the Order of the Purple Cross, and was a Life Member of the Annapolis Royal Legion No.21. He received the Queen Elizabeth Medal, Diamond Jubilee. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of the Kaulbach Family Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Annapolis Royal. A legion service will be held 6:30pm Monday, followed by visitation, 7-9pm from the Kaulbach Family Funeral Home, Annapolis Royal. A funeral Service will be held 2pm Tuesday, June 9, from St. Luke’s Anglican Church, Annapolis Royal, with Rev. Canon Ken Vaughan officiating. Burial will take place at a later date.
