Phil, Alia, Janet and those wonderful boys, Brennan and Ian, Today was one of those bittersweet days when our grief and all the happy moments in memory intermingle. The reception was wonderful and you did a beautiful job with it. So many old friends , the flowers, the yummy food., and best of all the great slide show . Sarah' s intelligence, humour, integrity and dedication to honour and empathy are a lasting legacy that all of you can be so proud of. She was loved and will be held dear. Can any of us do any better ? And I just will always remember the lovely, hilarious adventures and uncontrollable giggles of two librarians on a flight from the desk. Thank you for sharing her with us .

What a shock to read of Sarah's passing. She was a dear, dear friend. It was 20 years ago that we worked so closely (really) in that small room at library headquarters before Ross and I moved to Alberta. Her annual Christmas cards were a work of art and the entertaining letters were always saved. I learned so much from her about so many different things as her interests were so varied. She was a sharing person-from her recipe for Sarah's Famous (her words) Easter Egg, our love of gardening, cats and puns to just silly stuff (the best). I tried to finish the weekly NY Times crossword puzzle before her but don't think that ever happened. I can still hear her singing that opening line of "Why Oh, Why Oh Why Oh, did I ever leave Ohio?" -more just silly stuff. I am so grateful to have known her. She will be missed by so many.
Ross and I both send our love to Phil, Alia and family and to sister Janet about whom she often spoke. With love, Susan (Hicking) Potter and Ross Potter

I worked with Sarah for many years at the regional library. I used to help stamp the bookmobile books in the old building in Annapolis Royal when I first started at the library.
I always loved working with Sarah. She loved cats as much as I do. I will miss her and my thoughts are with her family. Sarah always had such a sweetness to her, a very kind person.

Over the years she would stop in the store we quickly learned we were pretty much neighbours and even though is was a chat at shop once in awhile or a wave on the shore as I walked by .. She was a great lady.. Not just a customer .. Someone u call a friend . Someone u won't forget...Sarah ...Lockhart's won't be the same without..especially those winter days when I would sware u an me were the only two around! You were part of our community ..your smile and laughs won't be forgotten..

Phil and Alia,
There are no words that can express how sad I was to hear of Sarah's passing. I had spoken with and hugged her just days before her passing, as we met for our typical chat on the streets of Annapolis. Her positive attitude and love for you shone through as we spoke and I was once again reminded that the quality of life comes from within. She inspired me many times with her strength and steadfast love for you all, her family. We would often speak of times gone by, memories of her mom, of course Rebecca, days at the Historic Gardens and of my mom but most importantly of what you were all doing- especially your boys Alia. So many times our lives would cross paths in work, in community and in doing things we both loved- like yoga. I will miss her positive influence as those who knew her will too.
I am unable to attend the memorial due to a prior commitment that I am unable to get out of but please know I am carrying you both in my heart.

I can't attend Sarah's memorial because I live and work in Connecticut. I knew Sarah mainly as a member of the House and Garden Tour Committee. I liked her a very great deal. She was so competent and had good values and was such a good community citizen. At our meetings she was so enthusiastic and funny and good hearted --and very, very sensible. She added so much to the Tour and to our lives.
I admire, too, the way she had come to NS and made a life for herself in a way that added to richness of everyone else in the community. Too, her home and gardens bespoke all of this, and were a delight to be in not just because of their beauty but because they embodied years of imagination realized by hard work and dedication. I'm very thankful to have been able to serve with her on the Committee and to have known her. I grieve from afar along with her family and friends.

Sarah helped to make our community a better place. I first knew her as a librarian on the bookmobile which visited the school where I taught and then as a sister volunteer at ARCAC, the Champlain Garden Club and the Annapolis Historic Gardens House and Garden Tour committee. She kept a fabulous garden at her home and I was fortunate more than once to have strolled through it. Thank-you, Sarah, for all you did.
