I just learned of Terry's passing this past weekend. I had been wondering why we hadn't seen him down on Tulip St. now that the snow has finally gone.
Terry always had a smile and a happy hello to pass along. He loved animals and children and they loved him.
Our condolences to his family. He will be sorely missed.

I am so sorry to hear that Terry was taken, especially at such a young age.....I was his girlfriend while we were at Digby Regional High School. From what I have read here it seems he didn't change much at all. He was a very sensitive guy and loved nature and animals...I have thought of him fondly over the years and will continue to do so.

I was so shocked when I heard the news of Terry's passing when I arrived at work on Tuesday morning. I work in the parish office at Saint Peter's Church - I didn't get to see Terry as often as my co-workers but anytime he knocked on the door to chat he'd flash that wonderful smile of his... I'll miss him, along with the many folks in our area who were as shocked as I was to hear of his passing. This week we've all told our stories of Terry and how the gentle giant touched so many folks around our church and community. In November we annually hold a special mass for those we have lost and Terry's name will be read aloud and we'll light a candle in his memory... he will never be forgotten.

I am so sorry for your loss. Terry was a neighbour of mine on Rose Street. He was a very kind and generous man, with a heart much larger than life. Terry taught me a lot about what it means to be a good neighbour and about what true generosity looks like. Rest peacefully, Terry, and know that we all miss you.

Good Morning,
I heard about Terry's passing yesterday and wanted to send a brief note. I live in the flower/tree neighbourhood and Terry walked by my house daily; I was on his route. I would put out some recyclables for him on occasion and we would often share a quick story or perspective on life as he walked by. He was friendly, kind and neighbourly. I will miss him in the hood as will my cat that we often discussed. All the best to you.
Sincerely,
Kathy
PS. A donation was given today, in his name, to a local facebook campaign for Smokey the cat who was rescued by a friend. http://www.gofundme.com/p2paok

I was thinking about Terry just last week as the sidewalks here in Dartmouth finally appeared from under their winter treachery. I was hoping to see him roaming around soon. It just won't be the same leaving work at Saint Peter's and not having a chat with him before hopping on my bike to ride home. He always had a smile and a story. John and I heard many times about his family and about how much you all meant to him. John, for one, looked forward to having some of his load lifted by his good cheer at the end of a busy work day. Terry's "pets" gathered around him every afternoon at the same time for their feast from the school dumpster. We will try and keep up his service to the creatures that will surely miss him. He will not be forgotten.

Jane and I had the pleasure of speaking to Terry on a daily basis out back of our building on Rose Street right up from his home. Rain, snow, sleet or hail, our friend would be 'on station' reducing, reusing and recycling....He was pleased a few years ago when one of our residents moved out, leaving behind a fortune in Recycle Bottles...Since they would not fit into his tote wagon, we loaded them in our car and delivered them to his place at the bottom of the hill. He would have done the same for us. This is truly tragic news as we didn't even know Terry was ill. I will miss his cheerful 'Beautiful Day' every morning regardless of the weather. Jane and I send our heartfelt condolences to you, the family. Terry was sort of family to us as well. Rest In Peace, Friendly Man.

I was surprised and saddened to hear of Terry's death as I read the obituary notice. Terry often dropped by Saint Peter Parish on Maple St., Dartmouth and staff members knew him well. Always, friendly, respectful and thankful to everyone whom he encountered; we will miss his gifts of gentleness and simplicity. Our sympathy to all the members of Terry's family.
"May songs of the angel's bring him home before the face of God."

I was saddened to hear of Terry's passing. I work at St Peters chuch in Dartmouth in the kitchen. He passed my window almost every day on route to and from the recycling depot. He always a big smile as he waved with his cane. Seeing him always raised by spirits. I know he touched the lives of all of us here, especially my friends Kate, John and me.
I was away from work in January and when I came back the path in front of my of window was not assessable because of all the snow. I thought it must be difficult for Terry to get around and that he must have changed his route. I'm sorry I missed him all winter.
He really was a gentle giant.
He will be missed for sure.

This was from a few summers ago. I needed some work done on our backdoor and could not head out n vacation until it was done (a long story). I had asked Terry if he was familiar with replacing weather stripping....he said no! Would not touch it with a 10 foot pole! The next thing I knew, there was Terry and Greg at the back gate with all the tools to fix it. Later that summer I got a phone call as he needed a drive to Canadian Tire to get a converter for his TV. Off we went to CTC in Dartmouth Crossing. He had called all the CTC stores that day looking to get an analog converter to Digital....Terry was our community.

I would like to pass along my condolences to Terry's family at this time of loss. My sister and I have been neighbours of Terry since he moved to Rose Street.... too many years ago to recall the exact year. Our end of the street was a sense of community and Terry was a major part of that community. Not a day went by when you didn't see Terry. It was only recently we learned he had fallen on ill health...however many people asked, "have you seen Terry?" Terry would always have a smile on his face and a chuckle when he passed by our home on his daily route..... Scotty the dog would always announced his presence!
Terry, you will always be remembered .... you will always be missed.
Rest in Peace....

My deepest condolences on the passing of Terry. Having known Terry for quite sometime, enjoying fishing expeditions, and working with him on the Docks, his loss will not go unnoticed. One Man Gang as I affectionately referred to him never had an angry word for any of the circumstances he encountered. Rose St. has lost a great figure. RIP old boy.

I have worked part-time as the Community Outreach Navigator in Dartmouth for six years. The work brings me to Dartmouth on a frequent basis, in contact with familiar faces and voices who make Dartmouth the dynamic and interesting place it is. One such person was Terry. I spoke to Terry every Tuesday and Thursday morning and he was always full of information about the neighbourhoods he traveled, the people he met and the welcome he received. Terry also shared with me stories about his walking stick and fishing trips in the valley. Terry's life was challenging, some of his stories hard to hear but his spirit was always strong, his attitude positive and his laugh infectious. "The word" in health care these days is "reciliency". I hope that as life throws me occasional curve balls, some I hit and some I miss, that I meet them with the kind of resiliency that Terry met his challenges.
Peace to all who grieve his death and celebrate his life.

I was lucky enough to work with Terry at the Halifax waterfront for over a decade.
Me only being 19 at the time i was first intimidated
By Terry with his big beard and even bigger shoes
But it didnt take long for me to realize he was not at all someone to be intimadated by but a kind hearted big man and someone who always had a little piece of advice for a young kid who thought he knew it all!
Rest easy Terry il never forget our long afternoons you wishing you had your fly wet and me wishing i was anywhere else!!
