Obituary of Douglas Arnold Johnson

Please share a memory of Douglas to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Born in Berwick, Nova Scotia on March 23, 1941 he was the son of the late Jane Parker, Cambridge, Nova Scotia. During his youth, being an only child, he was extremely close to his many cousins that served as siblings to him. He was an avid reader, as well as a great fan of boxing. After spending 2 years as a Reservist and spending summers in Gagetown, New Brunswick, at the young age of 17, Doug joined the Canadian Armed Forces as a Pay Writer. During his earlier years in the military he was attached to the Black Watch. He served two tours of duty with NATO, in Egypt during Peacekeeping Missions. He also served at various bases across Canada. After his retirement from the Canadian Armed Forces he then joined the Canadian Coast Guard but after a few short years reenlisted with the Canadian Armed Forces. After 25 plus years in the military he retired at the rank of Warrant Officer. He then went on to serve with the Canadian Corps of Commissionaires in Halifax before retiring back to his beloved Valley. He was a long time member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 74 Wolfville, where he had served in many capacities including SGT-AT-ARMS, Chairman and Treasurer. It was these positions that he loved and cherished. He enjoyed his Legion family and their tremendous support over the years, and especially appreciated the memories that they shared together. A memorial service to be held at a later date.
