Please share a memory of Leona to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Oliver, Leona Isabel (Ogilvie) April 5, 1923-January 25, 2015
Leona was the fourth of ten children born to Walter and Blanch Ogilvie. Of those 10 children she was one of the last four to survive; the other three being siblings Vivian of Berwick; Arnold (Olive) of Burlington and Allison of Spa Springs, She was predeceased by sisters Elsie (Alfred) Thorpe, Alda Ogilvie, Eyvonne (Barnette) Aughinbaugh, sister-in-law Pearl Ogilvie; brothers: Cyril, Gordon and Lewis Ogilvie. In 1944 Leona married Albert Oliver, they built a house in Parker’s Cove and lived there most of their married life. They raised their family there. Leona’s job was wife, mother and homemaker. She didn’t have a job description but just went ahead and did what needed to be done, and whenever possible she went beyond, did more and gave more. She was a cook and baker extraordinaire; she loved cooking-making healthy meals for her family – and baking, she even made wedding cakes; but was most famous for her homemade bread. Whenever her grandchildren Visited the first
thing they would ask for is bread. She loved feeding people and thought life could be handled better on a full stomach. Leona is survived by sons Clark and Reagh, and daughter Mary (Lynn) Fitzgerald; three grandchildren Desi Corkum (Tracey), David Oliver (Cathy) and Deanna (Andy) Fredericks, Great grandchildren include Timothy, Dalten, Randy, Ashton, Kelsey, Kaitlin and Riley. She was predeceased by great grandson Ryan Fredericks. Leona was a thoughtful person, she was quiet and funny; she was a good listener. She had a wonderful smile and laughed a lot. She was unsurpassed in her gentle and caring nature, her compassion, her love of humanity. She will be remembered as a loving and caring person, first as a daughter, a sister, an aunt, and later as a wife, mother and grandmother. She was a good neighbor and a great friend. She suffered health problems in 2010 which diminished her quality of Life. After that she was unable to do most of the things she had previously, and therefore had more leisure time on her hands. To fill this time she loved to go for drives, sometimes to visit family, sometimes just to drive, often going back to places of her childhood and younger life, and she would be reminiscent of her past life. Leona was a faithful member of Parkers Cove Baptist Church and attended regularly until her health prevented it. She is now absent from the body but present with the Lord and is reunited with her husband Albert and other loved ones.
Funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday January 29th at the Kaulbach Family Funeral Home, Annapolis Royal with Rev. Quincy Collins officiating. A reception will follow in the funeral home and then burial in Parker Mountain Cemetery, Parkers Cove. Donations in Leona’s memory may be sent to the Canadian Cancer Society
