He spent his final moments enjoying Johnny Cash's "Pick the Wild Wood Flower" while relaxing with friends and family. He was a charitable man, always helping those in need with open hands, and asking for naught but friendship in return. His steadfast friendships with longtime friends reflected this in his final hours, as those that loved and respected him put aside their own lives and were there to the end. Merwin will be missed dearly by his wife Paulette, family and friends alike. His presence at the old cabin, where he enjoyed good times with his oldest friends, will be noticed in the days ahead. The silence of his hands will echo in the years to come. He is pre-deceased by his wife Shirley, grandson Orry, and his puppins, Diefenbaker, who he often referred to as his favorite boy. To reflect his wishes, and as a reflection of his humility, no formal ceremony will be taking place. In its stead, an intimate gathering will be had graveside for anyone wishing to celebrate his life at 1:00, Saturday, November 22, while his ashes are laid to rest.
