Obituary of Father Thomas McQuade

McQuade, Father Thomas- Died at the North Hills Nursing Home, Granville Ferry, Nova Scotia, on September 28, 2010. Born on July 21, 1938 in Seattle, Washington, he was a son of Thomas Jefferson McQuade and Anne Elizabeth Sawyer, he came to Canada as a student of theology at St. Paul University in Ottawa in 1986, and was ordained a priest for the diocese of Yarmouth on May 15, 1988 at St Ambrose Cathedral, Nova Scotia. He exercised his pastoral ministry first as assistant priest at St. Ambrose Cathedral (1988-1990), then was given charge of Holy Cross parish in Plympton and St Joseph parish in Weymouth (1990-1994), and was transferred to St. Thomas parish in Shelburne and St. Philip in Barrington for five years (1994-1999). Finally he served at St Louis parish in Annapolis Royal and St Alphonsus in Bridgetown from 1999 until his retirement in March 2010. Visitation will be held in St. Louis Catholic Church in Annapolis Royal on Friday evening, October l, from 7:00 to 9:00 pm, with prayers at 8:00 p.m. The funeral mass will take place in that church on Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m. presided by Archbishop Anthony Mancini; the homily will be delivered by Father Patrick O'Meara. Following the funeral, the burial will take place in St. Alphonsus' Cemetery in Bridgetown. Father McQuade was predeceased by two sisters, Margaret Couture and June Jacobsen. He is survived by one sister, Judy Eppler, who lives in San Diego, California, Laurie and Billy Eppler, Debbie Beck, Suzi Sterner, Kathie Ringenbach, William Sawyer, and numerous cousins.
