Obituary of Lillian Thurber

Thurber, Lillian Francis 94, of Bridgetown, passed away April 30, 2011 at Northwood Center in Halifax. Born in Bridgetown, she was the only child of the late Edward Nicholls and Maude (Lockwood) of Cambridge, England. She was predeceased by her husband Ronald A. Thurber and stepson Edison Thurber. Lillian was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Lillian was a graduate of Acadia University. She taught school in Digby and Annapolis Counties in the 1940s, Colchester and Kings Counties in the 1950s, and finally at Prince Andrew High School in Dartmouth, from which she retired in the 1960s. Lillian and Ron retired to Bridgetown in the late 1960s to open and operate LilRon Studio. She was a member of the St. James Anglican Church and an active member of the Bridgetown community. She was also very active in the arts and crafts community of the Valley. She is survived by her adopted daughter Judy (Don) McCarthy of Halifax, stepdaughter Vera (Brad) Blackford of Halifax, stepsons Sydney Thurber of Calgary and Ben Leonard of Clarence. She is also survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great great grandchildren. Visitation will be held at Kaulbach Family Funeral Home, Bridgetown on May 5, from 1pm until service time at 2pm. Interment at St. James Anglican Cemetery, Bridgetown following the service. Family flowers only. Donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Society of Canada, the Canadian National Institute for the Blind (N.S. Chapter) or the Canadian Diabetic Association.
