SCARROW, Charles James Illingsworth (Charlie) - 64, of Upper Granville passed away August 18, 2014, in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Oshawa, Ontario, on August 9, 1950, he was the son of Charles McDermaid and Ethel (Mary) Rea. Charlie was raised by his grandparents, Ethel and James Scarrow. He had been a resident of Upper Granville since 1975. Charlie was born to coach, and coach he did, voluntarily and professionally, in Canada and in the USA, from his high school years on. Through all the years, Charlie's greatest pride and joy was in the development and growth of the individual and the athlete. "Charlie Man" was deeply respected and loved by his athletes, some of whom went on to Olympic levels. His athletes believe "Charlie Man" will be on their wings forever. His wife, Wen, says, "Charlie is a perfect husband, my life partner and life love. He has given me the happiest times in my life. Those wonderful memories will live in my heart forever. I believe we will meet in the next world and be together forever." Charlie is survived by his wife, Wen Zhou, and step-daugher, Xiao Zhang; mother, Ethel (Mary) Rea; sisters, Carolyn Chard, Donna McMurter, Diane McLuckie. He was predeceased by his grandparents and brother, John Hurst. A private family service has been held at the family home, with a public celebration of Charlie's life to be held at a later date.
