Marshall, Thurston Elston, 89 of Bridgetown, passed away February 1, 2014 in the Veterans Unit at Soldiers Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Born in Bridgetown, he was a son of the late Gordon and Goldie (Guest) Marshall. Thurston was a school bus driver and supervisor for 37 years with the Bridgetown school system. He was a member of the Bridgetown Lions Club for 47 years and was a warded the Lion of The Year Award on 4 separate occasions. A veteran he served overseas from 1943-1946 as a member of the Cape Breton Highlanders in France, Holland and Germany. He became a member of the North Nova Scotia Regiment in 1946 in the occupation of Germany. He was a devoted member of the Bridgetown Baptist Church for more than 60 years. He was known for his recitations of scripture and poetry in both the church and the community. In 2013, he was the Provincial Representative for Volunteer of the Year for the town of Bridgetown. Thurston is survived by son, Arthur (Judy) of Bridgetown; daughters, Mary (Walter) Davis of Hampton, N.B., Lorraine (Tom) Knickle of Bridgetown; 8 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren; sister, Marilyn of Bridgetown. He was predeceased by his wife the former Betty Newcombe; brothers, Lorimer, Ronald and Clesson; sisters, Juanita and Catherine. Visitation will be held Monday from 7-9 p.m. with a Legion service at 7:00 p.m. at the Kaulbach Family Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Bridgetown. Funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 4, from the Bridgetown Baptist Church with Rev. Brian Wallace officiating. A private family interment will take place before the service in Riverside cemetery, Bridgetown. A reception will follow in the vestry. Family Flowers only.
