Beeler, Edrie Matilda, - Passed away peacefully on December 24, 2013 in Tibbetts Home for Special Care, Wilmot, Annapolis County less than two months short of her 110th birthday. Born in the community of Victory, Annapolis County on February 15, 1904, she was the daughter of the late Ozias and Sophia Darres. Edrie was the last remaining member of her immediate family. Edrie's beloved husband Murray predeceased her in December 1967. She is survived by her daughter, Jean (Jim) Moore, Wilmot; grandchildren, Wayne Moore, Deborah Moore-Boylan, Tara Comeau and Brenda Lee Prall; great grandchildren, Scott, Krista, Christopher, Andrew, Danielle, Matthew, Sarah, Kelsie and Tyler; as well as five great great grandchildren; Son, George Beeler, Toronto, ON.; granddaughter, Nicole Beeler; and great granddaughter Amiyah Beeler. At the age of 18, Edrie ventured out to Boston, Mass, USA to train as a Registered Nurse, graduating in 1925. She spent the next 3 years doing private nursing duties in the Boston area. In 1928, Edrie returned to Nova Scotia and was soon married to her childhood sweetheart, Murray C. Beeler. In 1930, her husband Murray and his brother Ken, bought a hardware store in Annapolis Royal and ran in under the name of "Beeler Bros." Edrie was devoted to her family and raised two children, son George and daughter, Jean. She was very active in the Annapolis Royal Community life. In the late 1930's she was very involved in having Annapolis General Hospital established and built. Over the next 40 years, she was president of the Hospital Aid Society and active in raising money to support the then "Annapolis Royal Hospital". Edrie was a member of St. Luke's Anglican Church, Annapolis Royal, The Rectory Guild and Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star, Annapolis Royal. After the death of her husband, Murray, in December 1967, she continued to run Beeler Bros Hardware Store until it was sold in 1968. In 1985, she sold her home in Annapolis Royal and moved to the local Seniors Citizens Home where she happily resided until 2000. Edrie then moved to the Tibbetts Home for Special Care in Wilmot, N.S. Edrie has always lived a very active life both physically and mentally. Up until very recently, Edrie was a very avid Scrabble player. She was much loved by her son & daughter, as well as her five grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren and all those who knew her over the many years of her life. Many people considered her to be a second mother. We want to thank Doctor Paul McGuire and the staff of Tibbetts Home for Special Care in Wilmot for the tender loving care that they have given our mother the past thirteen years. A visitation will be held 2-4 pm Monday, December 30, in the Kaulbach Family Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Annapolis Royal. A funeral service will be held 11 am Tuesday, December 31, in St. Luke's Anglican Church, Annapolis Royal with Rev. Canon Ken Vaughan Officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Annapolis Royal with a reception for family and friends back at the St. Luke's Parish hall following. Family flowers only.
