Ward, Shirley- of Bridgetown East, Nova Scotia passed away on August 7, 2013 at the age of 77. Shirley was born in Middleton, N.S. on August 30, 1935. She was the eldest daughter of the late Beatrice Annie Foster and Charles Lewis Bent. She is survived by her husband of 57 years , John V. Ward; daughter, Deborah Karen (Tom) Rice of Bridgetown; son, Kevin John (Anna-Maria) of Coldbrook; six grandchildren, Christopher of Halifax, Jason (Ashley) of Paradise, and Sonya of Halifax; Gillian, Emma and Olivia of Coldbrook. She is also survived by sisters, Judy (Roy) Hiltz of Aylesford and Linda Harshman of Canoga Park, California. Shirley graduated from the Annapolis Royal Academy and the former Mack Business College in Kentville. She worked as a secretary on the Greenwood base for two years and then for many years until retirement with Orlando and Hicks Barristers and Solicitors (later known as Cottenden and Cameron). Shirley strived for perfection in life, including her home, her property and her work. She liked golf, curling, swimming, gardening, travelling and camping. She especially enjoyed many years of golf as a member of the Eden Golf and Country Club and served as the ladies president. She was an avid and competitive curler and served also as the ladies president of the Bridgetown Curling Club. She was a member of Saint James Anglican Church and sang in the choir for many years. She will be remembered for her active life style, her ability to get things done and her excellent and healthy cooking. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of the Kaulbach Family Funeral Home, Bridgetown. Funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday August 15, 2013 from Saint James Anglican Church with Father Joel Hardy officiating assisted by Father Fred Hinxman. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Bridgetown. A reception will follow in the church hall. Family flowers only by request. Donations in Shirley's memory may be sent to St. James Anglican Church.
