Obituary of Lockhart Ferguson

Ferguson, Lockhart Burns, 96 of Bridgetown/Lower Sackville passed away April 6, 2011 at Ivy Meadows Nursing Home, Beaver Bank, N.S. Born In Northport, Cumberland County, N.S., he was a son of the late John M. and Lillian (Lockhart) Ferguson. He graduated from Normal College in Truro and taught in several rural schools in Cumberland County before teaching in Bridgetown for a number of years. He was a well known electrician for many years with Valley Services Ltd. Bridgetown and, in later years worked independently. An active member in his community, he served as a Member and Chairman of the Bridgetown School Board, as town councilor, and as an elder in the Gordon Providence United Church, Bridgetown. An avid Mason, he belonged to a number of Masonic Lodges in the Annapolis Valley, including Rothsay Lodge #41 Bridgetown, where he served as Master and District Deputy Grand Master; Evangeline #94 A.F & A.M. and Valley Chapter #16, Royal Arch Masons, Middleton. He is survived by his son John (Irene) Ferguson, Lower Sackville, N.S.; grandsons: Scott (Linda Lucker), Cornwall, P.E.I., and Mark (Marcia Penney-Ferguson), Hammonds Plains, N.S.; and niece Betty (Arnold) Harrison, Amherst, N.S. He was predeceased by his wife Jean Elizabeth in 1996 and his sister Mabel (Ferguson) Patton. Visitation will be held 7-9 p.m. Sunday with a Masonic Service at 7:00 p.m. from the Kaulbach Family Funeral Home, Bridgetown. A Memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday from the William Black United Church, Bridgetown with Rev. Janis Campbell officiating. Interment will be in the Hillside Cemetery, Northport at a later date. The family would like to send a special thanks to the staff of Ivy Meadows Nursing Home for the loving and compassionate care they provided Lockhart and his family. Family flowers only.
