Rice, Lawrence "Larry" G - 93, of Annapolis Royal/Granville Ferry. It is with great sadness we announce that Larry passed away peacefully in the Annapolis Royal Nursing Home on Friday, July 12, 2013, where he had been a resident for several years. He was born in Toronto, Ontario on June 21, 1920. He served in the Royal Canadian Navy and moved to the United States where he raised his family following his service during WWII. In 1996, he met and marred Dorothy Cummings and moved to Granville Ferry. He was predeceased by his first wife, Margaret (Horsfall); his two sons, Paul (1977) and Gary (2010). He is survived by his grandchildren, Brandon and Tiffany Rice, Oregon; his only sister, Jacqueline, Israel; several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his loving wife whom he affectionately called "Dottie" and her Cummings family - Donna; Brian and Debby; Linda and Rodney; Susan and Natalie; and Sandra (predeceased by Randy and Sheila) and all their children and grandchildren. We loved Larry deeply and feel blessed to have had him in our family for nearly seventeen years. Larry suffered with the rare, incurable muscle disease, "Inclusion Body Myositis" (IBM) for over ten years, but never stopped devising new self-help technology to enable him to live his life to the fullest, despite this disease's debilitating challenges. He was a gifted hobby photographer who loves sunsets, was an avid pool player, enjoyed the water and all water sports, and used his computer for research, entertainment and communication. He will be remembered for his love of his family, his joy of travelling, and attending family gatherings especially when it involved good food and delicious desserts! Larry was past Chairman of the American Welding Society in Albany, Oregon and has been an active member of the Annapolis Royal Lions Club and the Royal Canadian Legion Port Royal Branch #21. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Kaulbach Family Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Annapolis Royal, where the Lion's Club and Legion will hold a service at 6:30 pm, Wednesday followed by visitation from 7-9 pm. A celebration of Larry's life will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, July 18, from the First United Baptist Church, Annapolis Royal, with Rev. Tim McFarland officiating. Following the service a reception will be held in the church hall. Family flowers only. Donations in Larry's memory may be made to the Myositis Association, or charity of your choice.
