Please share a memory of Mark to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
HALL, Mark Arthur of Granville Ferry, Annapolis Country passed away peacefully at home with family by his side Dec 31, 2012. Mark was born on Apr 23, 1940, son to the late Howard and Kathleen "Kay" Hall. He was raised, along with his four brothers, in Belleville Ontario. Mark graduated from Ryerson in Toronto and then, remaining in the city, he enjoyed his career there as an architectural technologist until his retirement in 1999. On the personal side, an acquaintanceship of several years blossomed into a full blown romance, and on Jan 23, 1982 Mark married his love, 'my belle' Michele. He went from bachelor to instant family man; with not only a wife, but also a daughter and a son coming into his life, all together in a package deal! Following retirement, Mark and Michele moved to Nova Scotia in 2002. They made Granville Ferry their home and truly embraced their new community. Mark was Treasurer for the Granville Ferry Hall (and also took care of the rental bookings). Under his tenure, the Hall underwent substantial updates - roof replaced, new windows and insulation, new bathrooms, and approval for a new furnace - ever improving so as to flourish with community events. On the Board of Directors of the Annapolis West Hospital Foundation and Chairperson of the Palliative Care Committee, Mark was instrumental in the restoration of the Palliative Care Family Room and the two Palliative Care Rooms at the Annapolis Health Centre. A project close to his heart, Mark had a vision - 'Let's make the rooms more like bedrooms' - offering care and comfort. Seaside gardening was Mark's recreation and passion. He loved digging in the dirt, wheel barrelling his mulch, and was most happy shovelling manure! Perennials, grasses, bushes, or vegetables, Mark meticulously tended to them all. He would happily spend the whole day in his garden, an oasis in its own right, but being next to the water truly made it his haven. He'd watch the tides and always enjoyed the ever changing waters. Mark loved looking out at his garden and the water - it was the perfect view. Quite simply, there was no other place he wanted to be. Mark will be deeply missed by his beloved wife Michele (Hordo); daughter Lynnette (Jim) Millar of Sackville NS; son Spencer Louttit of Vancouver BC; grandson Philip Millar of Edmonton AB; brothers Ralph (the late Joan) Hall of Wellington ON, and Carl (Jean) Hall of Toronto, ON. He was predeceased by his father, mother and brother, Lorne. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Kaulbach Family Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Annapolis Royal. A celebration of Mark's life will be held 2 pm Saturday January 12, 2013, at the Annapolis Royal Fire Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mark's memory may be made to Annapolis West Health Foundation - Palliative Care, Annapolis Royal, NS. Mark expressed his heartfelt thanks to: "My extraordinaire wonderful wife Michele. Angel in Action Dr. Mary Davis. Dr. Lori Burgess & her Home Palliative Care Team."
