Obituary of Mary Catherine Hudson

Please share a memory of Mary to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Mary Catherine Hudson

We, the family of Mary Hudson, are deeply saddened to announce her passing on May 10, 2024 at the Annapolis Royal Nursing Home, Annapolis Royal.

Born July 20, 1933 to parents Clinton and Emma (Rafuse) Robinson, she lived her whole life ‘on the shore’, between grandparents following her Mother’s passing when she was just 5 years old.

Mom was a proud homemaker and she and our Dad raised 10 children: Karen, Parkers Cove; Eric (Lunetta), Parkers Cove; Barbie (Eric) Rafuse, Young’s Cove; Ray (Gloria), Young’s Cove; Gerry (Paulette), Hebbville; Danny (Ann), Young’s Cove; Tony (Norma – Deceased), Youngs Cove; Greg – Deceased (Debbie – Deceased); Dale, Annapolis Royal; Beth (Scott) Bent, Bridgetown. She was especially proud of her 15 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren, as well as numerous fur-grandbabies who also liked to visit Nanny’s house. She is survived by sisters, Barbara Rafuse and Pat Thibbidao; sisters in law, Myrtle, Ruth, and Connie; half sisters, Florence Vidiksis and Wanitta Gregory.

In addition to being a homemaker, Mom worked as an Avon Representative, waitress at the Pig and Whistle Take-out and Robinson Fisheries Take-out. When the Upper Clements Park opened, she worked in several of the attractions for a couple seasons. Later, she became a guide at the O’Dell Museum in Annapolis Royal, fulfilling her love of history, genealogy and talking to people.

When she retired, Mom spent several hours a week reading to Twila, or visiting with Ruby. She was usually one of the first to welcome newcomers to the community. She especially enjoyed Jam Sessions at the Young’s Cove Hall, or anywhere else that someone would take her.

Church was very important to Mom; and as much as she enjoyed Sunday Morning visits from the boys – especially Jake and Connor – everyone knew it was time to leave at 1030 so she could get ready for church.

Mom was predeceased by her husband, Ivan in 2005; son, Greg in 2012; daughters in law, Debbie in 2013 and Norma in 2023; half brother, Jackie Robinson in 2021.

In lieu of flowers, it was Mom’s wish that donations in her memory be made to Hillside Cemetery or the Parkers Cove Baptist Church.

A visitation will be held 7-9pm, May 13, from the Kaulbach Family Funeral Home, Annapolis Royal. A funeral Service will be held 2pm, May 14, 2024, at the Parkers Cove Baptist Church, Parker Mountain Road, with Pastor Collin McMahon and Jeff George officiating. A private family burial will take place. A reception will be held at the church. Online condolence may be made at www.kaulbachfamilyfuneralhome.com
