Obituary of Debra Joy Phelan

Please share a memory of Debra to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Debra (Debbie) Joy Phelan, born August 20th, 1958. Daughter of the late William and Nancy (Poole) Phelan of Clarence N.S.

Debbie had a great love of nature and all it encompassed. Much of her time lovingly devoted to her hobby farm, especially her chickens. She was an avid gardener and took great pride in showing her granddaughters the ways of caring for plants and animals.

She was very proud of her community and her ties to it. Debbie had a love of animals and was active in the Clarence 4-H Club for many years. Later becoming a leader when her children joined, and then introducing her grandchildren to the Club.

Debbie began her caregiving career at Mountain Lea Lodge in the 1970’s. She took some time to care for her family, then returned to MLL for many more years. She took pride in this work and considered her co workers an extension of her family.

She had a generous spirit, always caring for and tending to the needs of others. Debbie lived her life with enthusiasm and joy. A go-getter with a work ethic to be inspired by. Her family and friends were her passion, her love for them limitless.

She will be lovingly remembered for her smile that would light up a room.

She leaves behind, partner, Richard Durling; children, Carla MacAleese (Gary Laird); Travis MacAleese (Lindsay Downie); stepdaughter, Krista (Rick) Hauschild; beloved grandchildren, Casey and Layton MacAleese; sister, Patricia Phelan (Mike Giffin); special nieces and nephews,  Katelyn (Ryan) Anderson; Thomas and Kylah Anderson; Ryan (Amanda) Boyd and Oliver Boyd; dearest friend, Rosalie Gale.

Donations in her memory can be made to the Lawrencetown Consolidated School Breakfast Program or the Clarence 4-H Club.
