Obituary of Douglas Russell Andrews
Andrews, Douglas Russell – 74 – formerly of Parker Mountain Road passed away Wednesday Oct 31, 2023, at Mountain Lea Lodge. Born in Parker’s Cove, Oct 9th, 1949. He was the son of the late Russell William Andrews and Elizabeth (Lizzie) Elsie (Hudson) Oliver.
Douglas had a lifelong love of the Bay of Fundy. Douglas started his fishing career at the young age of 14. In his early 20’s he purchased and became the owner and captain of his first scallop dragger. His fishing career carried him through 40 years and his final boat was the Dawn Til Dusk. In his retirement years, he enjoyed spending time on the family property in Parkers Cove where he and his daughter Tammy built a road and set up a small campsite for his camper overlooking the Bay of Fundy. Here he would sit and watch the fishing boats trawl by. He always knew which boat was passing-by by the sound of its engine. He also enjoyed his Sunday mornings on the shore with Tammy where they would listen to Stuart McLean, cook breakfast over the campfire and listen to the Golden Oldies on the radio.
Other joys in life for Doug were his Silverado trucks that he polished with pride, driving his children and then grandkids around every Halloween, summertime road adventures, family game nights especially the game “Marbles” and “Chicken” that he learned from the guys on the Shore. Many conversations over the years with friends about fishing at: Tim Hortons, Parkers Cove Wharf and at “Michael’s” and “Gary’s” stores in Parkers Cove.
He is survived by his wife Barbara (Thompson); daughters, Barbara Faye, of Granville Centre; Laura Carson, of Nictaux; Tammy (David) Tupper, of Round Hill; Jamie McCorry, of Lawrencetown; David Andrews, of Parkers Cove; grandchildren, Victoria and Emily Moore, Owen and Olivia Carson and Abby McCorry; son in-law Michael McCorry; half brother, Max Hudson. He is predeceased by his half-sisters, Hester (Hudson) Cosman and Helen (Hudson) Sarty; half-brother ,Dennison (Josephine) Oliver and granddaughter, Sylvia Carson.
