Obituary of Luella Hirtle

Hirtle, Luella Oreen- 96, of Bridgetown, passed away May 26, 2012, in Soldiers Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Born in Centrelea, she was the daughter of the late Lewis and Ora Messinger. Luella was a member of the Halifax and Bridgewater Curling Clubs and also a member of the Bridge Clubs in Halifax, Bridgewater and Bridgetown. She enjoyed oil painting, and loved to entertain and had a wide circle of friends. Luella worked at the post office in Bridgetown, for many years. Her summer home in Hampton was one of her greatest joys, where she spent June until October every year. Luella is survived by her son, Donald MacLean of Halifax; daughters, Iva Gale of Bridgetown, and Ann Alcorn-Swick of Halifax; nine grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Hilda; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Roger; brothers, Charles, George and Ralph; sisters, Janet and Florence. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of the Kaulbach Family Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Bridgetown. There will be no visitation by request. Funeral service will be held 11:00 am Wednesday May 30, 2012, from the Centrelea Baptist Church with Pastor David Cumby officiating. Reception will follow at the Centrelea Community Hall. Burial will take place at a later date in Dayspring Cemetery. Donations in Luella's memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Nova Scotia Heart and Stroke Foundation, Centrelea Community Hall or Charity of Choice.
