only just found out about Douglas Brown's passing. I met him in 1981 on a train journey from Lisbon to Paris. Then, in 1984, after covering the Los Angeles Olympics as a journalist, I traveled to Vancouver, where Doug met me at the airport. We stayed at his parents' house in Vancouver and then traveled to Salmon Arm, where he lived with his wife Lina Lane and stepson Matthew. We live very pleasant and unforgettable days. I was never able to return to Canada again. My sympathies go out to Linda and Matthew.

Doug was my oldest and one of my dearest friends. Our family had moved to Canada from England in 1951. Doug was seven and I was nearly six. He walked down the lane from his house, introduced himself and we have been friends ever since. Doug's parents Betty and Ernie and his sister Barb were like a surrogate family to me. I spent countless hours at the Brown house listening to pop music, watching sports, playing sports at Balaclava Park, having dinner with his family and getting into all kinds of misadventures. Although Doug attended Catholic schools our friendship remained strong. When as adults, we both moved away from the Dunbar neighbourhood that we grew up in, we always stayed in touch. Doug visited our home in Chilliwack, B.C. and we visited Doug and Linda in Bear River, Nova Scotia. Looking back on our friendship, I cannot think of anybody as generous and thoughtful as Doug Brown. Our sincerest condolences go out to Linda, Matthew and family.

I am grateful that I was able to spend some time with cousin Doug following the family's move to Bear River, N.S. which was only a short ferry ride from the Saint John area where I have been living since 1979
I stayed with Doug and Linda during the Nova Scotia Senior golf tournament a few years ago in Digby and enjoyed the wonderful community, not to mention their great home and all the work they had done to make it special. Great spot, with the river only steps away! I got to reminisce about my early days out in Vancouver with our parents, I also greatly enjoyed breakfasts at the local breakfast nook in Bear River and my visits with his mother and father when I spent time in the winter in Vancouver once I retired.
My sincere condolences to Linda, Matthew and the family and am grateful for being able to share Doug with you over the years.

Dear Linda:
Wayne and I are so very sad to learn of the passing of Doug.
Wayne so enjoyed Doug's visits to the Church Hall, in Deep Brook, just to "shoot the breeze" with each other.
Remember all the wonderful times you created with Doug during his life's journey and these will help ease the pain you are experiencing.
If there is anything we can do, for you, please do not hesitate to give us a call.
Keeping you all in our prayers and thoughts.
Sincerely,
Wayne/Linda (Isles)
