Obituary of George William Wheeler

Please share a memory of George to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

George William Wheeler, age 80
April 17, 1943 - August 10, 2023

Son of the late Gilbert and Olive Wheeler Of Round Hill, Annapolis County. Predeceased by his devoted partner of 38 years, David Burrell, and by his sister, Margaret (Beeler).

He was known as Bill or Billy to his family and closest friends, and known as George by everyone else who was blessed to know him.

Bill was a delight. Although a quiet, gentle, unassuming and soft-spoken fellow, his impish self was never far away. If Bill called you friend, he meant it and he meant it for life.

Bill spent his early years in Round Hill before heading off to Toronto. Once he arrived there, he tried a couple of different professions, but then landed in the one that he thoroughly enjoyed for a very long career as a dispatcher with TST Overland Express trucking.

Upon his retirement from TST, Bill returned to Round Hill and the family home that he so very much loved. Each year from Spring through Fall, he could be seen daily, sitting on the veranda, enjoying a book and a coffee. So often, each day, the ‘regulars’ who drove by gave their horn a toot and were rewarded with Bill’s smile and a wave.

Bill is survived by his sister, Dorothy (Schley), Salmon Arm, BC and three half siblings, Donald (Beeler) Weymouth, Carol (Garland) Coldbrook,  and Valerie (Nugent), Dartmouth… and many loving nieces and nephews coast to coast.

No Funeral by request. Charitable gifts in Bill’s memory may be offered to the organization of your choice.
