Phillip Woolf

Obituary of Phillip Woolf

Please share a memory of Phillip to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Phillip Woolf, born October 1952, a beloved artist, educator, and mentor, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 17 in his home on the Bay of Fundy, Nova Scotia, an environment he loved.

Born and raised in South Africa, Phillip had a passion for life, art, and enduring friendships. Like all of us, Phillip struggled at times but didn’t shy away from challenging himself to learn and grow.

Generous in spirit, Phillip had many interests and talents- painting, music, philosophy, cooking, travelling, nature, tennis, self-exploration and above all connecting with others. Phillip had many friends from a wide variety of social backgrounds, and cultures. Phillip gave of himself tirelessly to those in need and was seen as a natural leader, mentor, and friend.

Throughout his career, Phillip devoted himself to teaching and mentoring younger artists. He believed that art had the power to change lives, and he worked to inspire and encourage others to pursue their creative passions.

Philip strongly identified with his roots in South Africa, its art, music, food, culture, and struggle for equitable political transition as exemplified by the values of his hero, Nelson Mandela.

Phillip was a loving brother to Alan, and a devoted stepfather to Dan and Dov. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and the countless people whose lives he touched with his art, his genuine warmth and caring, his sense of humour and his wisdom.

Family and friends would like to acknowledge the doctors and Victoria Order of Nurses for their exemplary dedication, attention and support provided during Phillip’s last days.

Given the wide geographical range of Phillip’s friends and family, a memorial service to celebrate Phillip’s life will be arranged at a future date, yet to be announced, as a virtual video conference. (Please e-mail pwservice2023@gmail.com to receive an invitation.) In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Wellspring Cancer Support Foundation that provides direct support to people living with cancer.
