Obituary of Joyce Sylvia Porter

Please share a memory of Joyce to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Porter, Joyce Sylvia of Bear River, passed away on October 1st in Tideview Terrace, Digby, at the age of 92.

Joyce was the daughter of the late Reginald and Nellie (Mailing) Potter. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She loved her family dearly. You would most likely find her at home cooking or cleaning while always singing or humming a tune. She was a strong and devoted Christian. She loved her church where she sang in the choir for many years. Joyce loved music, cats and dogs, going for drives with her husband Harold, and the many good meals and get togethers at their home and back to their camp in Tom Wallace. She was a very kind and gentle person with a heart of gold. She will be truly missed.

She is survived by her daughter, Rebecca Santanna of Caroline, AB; grandchildren, Jesse Porter of Red Deer, AB, Emily Freeman of Lethbridge, AB, Willis (Jasmine) Porter of Grande Prairie, AB; great grandchildren, Natalie and Kohl; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 69 years, Harold Porter; parents, Reginald and Nellie Potter; brother, Lawrence Potter; sisters, Constance Adams and Dorothy Parker.

We would like to say a special Thank you to all who had a part in helping Joyce on her challenging journey in the last chapter of her life living with dementia. Thank you to the staff on the second floor in Digby General Hospital, North Queens Nursing Home in Caledonia, Robyn Denton, Mary Longmire, Dr. Buchholz and Dr. Black.

Her final place was Tideview Terrace in Digby, where she resided for 4 years. To the amazing staff at Tideview: There are no words to express our profound gratitude for the excellent care that was given and the love and compassion that was shown to “Joycie”.  You all had a part in making her feel like Tideview was her home. She loved you all dearly and you all became her extended family. She was very happy and content there. You truly were her earth angels! May God bless each and every one of you.

A funeral service will be held 2pm Wednesday, October 5, 2022 in the Kaulbach Family Funeral Home, Annapolis Royal with Pastor Mark Elley officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery, Bear River. Donations in Joyce’s memory may be send to Tideview Terrace, Digby. Online condolences may be made at www.kaulbachfamilyfuneralhome.com
