Obituary of Marguerite Ann Sabko

Please share a memory of Marguerite to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Marguerite Ann Sabko, Loving Wife, Mom, Aunt, Grandmother, Great Grandmother and Friend, passed away peacefully on September 27th at 9:30 in the morning.

Marguerite was born June 22, 1933 to Ruby and Ernest Buurman in Dundurn Saskatchewan. She was raised on the farm so was never afraid of hard work.

Marg met her first love Richard Waldron, and was married on January 25, 1952 and he lost his life in an accident on October 12th, 1952. Terry was born on November 25th, 1952.

She then met her next love, William Gerald Sabko, who swooned her with his dance moves and they danced into life going forward. Mom had 4 more children with Gerry…Cathy, Gwen, Dan and Pat. Mom ruled the household with a heavy hand, all us children had to hear is the wooden spoon drawer open and we would move very quickly. Dad was in the forces and served overseas many times, so Mom had to keep us in line.

Mom was a woman full of faith, love and respect for anyone and everyone she met. A strong and independent woman who has moved across Canada several times with the last move to Bridgetown Nova Scotia. She lived in a beautiful little home and drove her car to the last possible day she could.

The strength of this woman cannot be put into words. She took all of her struggles in life and just kept going. Her faith was undeniable and she would persevere through the toughest of storms. Her last struggle being her diagnosis of the evil cancer. Cancer does not care about age, colour, race or creed…it takes anyone it wants. The Doctors that performed the surgery were really hopeful that they had taken all the cancer out of Mom, but 9 short weeks later her body could take no more.

Marguerite loved life and helping out wherever she could. She was a woman who was so talented in everything she touched. She painted, crocheted, knit, hooked rugs, crafted, baked and loved with all her heart.

Mom was predeceased by her first husband Richard, her second husband Gerry, Sister Geraldine, Brother George, Daughter in Law Elizabeth Waldron, Son in Law Keith Schneider.

We will miss our Mom, Grandma, Great Grandma so very much, she was our rock during all of our storms. Marg is survived by her Sister Velva McKinney, children Terry (Gayle) Waldron, Cathy (Gordon) Graves, Gwen Schneider (Dale Cockx), Daniel Sabko, Patricia Sabko.

Her precious grandchildren and spouses, whom she could never say enough about are, Ian (Maggie Carquez) and Stewart (Jennifer) Waldron, Chad (Aimee) Graves, Sarah Graves and Morgan (Thomas) Kirkham, Amanda (Andrew) Van Ham and Krystal (Brent) Puetz, Troy (Melissa) Sabko, James Sabko, Tasha Sabko and Kevin (Tara Harris) Sabko. 23 Great Grandchildren and Two Great Great Grandchildren.

You know, when it comes to a life that was lived so well, and you have to sum it up in a few words, it really makes you think about how you live your life. This quote was tucked in Moms Bible:

Always remember to forget, the things that made you sad,

But never forget to remember the things that made you glad.

Always remember to forget the friends that proved untrue,

But never forget to remember those that have stuck by you.

Always remember to forget the troubles that passed your way,

But never forget to remember the blessings that come each day!

A celebration of life will be held at 11am Friday June 23, 2023, in the Bridgetown Baptist Church, with Rev. Dr. Steven Hopper Officaiting.

The family would like to thank Dr. David Bell and his team of the Urology unit of Victoria General Hospital as well as the incredible nurses.
