Obituary of Darrah Marianne Richardson

Please share a memory of Darrah to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

The family of Darrah Marianne Richardson, 34, of Bridgetown, Nova Scotia, sadly announces her sudden passing on September 13, 2022 in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, NS. Born in Charlottetown, PEI, June 23, 1988, she is the daughter of Maureen Gowanlock and the late David Richardson. While she previously resided in Spain and Halifax, in 2020 Bridgetown quickly became her forever home. We are so grateful that Darrah and her young family were warmly welcomed by Gram and Grampie Stackhouse, Gigi Ruggles, and the Bridgetown community.

Darrah’s formal education included a degree in Spanish Studies from Dalhousie University and various certifications in Yoga and fitness instruction. Darrah was a lifelong, self-directed learner. She was incredibly intelligent and possessed an expansive knowledge base, especially related to environmental sustainability, physical health, mental wellbeing, pop culture, dermatology, and stain removal. With absolute certainty, Darrah would have surpassed Ken Jennings on Jeopardy’s Leaderboard of Legends and look great doing it. She was an authority on 90 Day Fiancé, with hours spent cataloguing the many relationships and expressly being a Darcy apologist. Darrah was truly authentic, charismatic, and painfully honest; attributes that were celebrated by her family and friends. From giving perfectly curated gifts to building others' wardrobes during thrifting excursions, Darrah’s generosity and thoughtfulness had few limits. Her practice in self-reflection and compassionate mindset continues to inspire. Darrah was an intentional and loving partner, mother, family member, and friend.

Darrah will be deeply missed by her partner, Matthew Stackhouse, and daughter, Alva Stackhouse, both of Bridgetown, NS; mother, Maureen of PEI; grandparents Frank and Marion Gowanlock of Middle Sackville, NS; sisters, Brianna (Derek and daughter, Ridley) Hughes, PEI, Ashley (sons, Luke and Ben) Taylor and Shauna (Todd Phillips and children, Kievan and Neala) Zwicker of Alberta. Equally missed by Matt’s family, mother and father in-law, Susan and Brien Stackhouse of Bridgetown; grandmother in-law, Maxine Ruggles of Bridgetown; brother in-law, Andrew (Mariah Lent and daughter, Aubrey) Stackhouse of Halifax; and sister in-law Jessica Stackhouse of Bridgetown. Her many close friends, especially her famous dog Bogie, will miss her dearly.

In her own words, “... when someone who is held so dear by so many crosses over, the answer lies in culminating as a community to mourn and celebrate, together.” Darrah, we will always love you and we are all so very grateful to have you in our lives.

Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of the Kaulbach Family Funeral Home, Bridgetown. The family is grateful for their care and respect during this difficult time. There will be private family gatherings later. Donations in Darrah’s memory may be sent to Brigadoon Village or Craig’s Cause Pancreatic Cancer Society.
